Tata Punch SUV Offers Significant Savings For Military Personnel Through Army Canteen Initiative
Tata Motors' Punch SUV is gaining traction among Indian buyers, becoming a top choice for the company nationwide. Now, military personnel can purchase the Punch SUV through the Army Canteen Stores Department (CSD), benefiting from reduced taxes. This initiative allows military personnel to buy cars at a lower price, offering significant savings.
When purchasing a car via the Army Canteen, the GST is only 14%, compared to the standard 28%. This reduction means military personnel pay half the usual taxes, leading to substantial savings. For instance, the Punch Pure variant costs ₹5.6 lakh through CSD, whereas it is ₹6 lakh in showrooms, saving up to ₹1.72 lakh depending on the variant.

The Army Canteen, overseen by the Ministry of Defence, operates 34 sales outlets in major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Managed by the Indian Armed Forces, it offers discounted products exclusively for military personnel. These include food, medical supplies, household goods, and vehicles. Eligible customers are serving and retired military personnel, widows of military personnel, ex-servicemen, and defence civilians.
Price differences between CSD and civilian showrooms vary based on Punch variants. For example, the Adventure variant is priced at ₹6.3 lakh through CSD but costs ₹7.17 lakh in showrooms. Buying through CSD saves ₹87 thousand. Similarly, top variants like Creative AMT are available for ₹8.6 lakh in CSD while priced at ₹9.72 lakh in showrooms, saving ₹1.12 lakh.
The Tata Punch car is notable not only for its affordability but also for its features and specifications. It has a 1.2-litre Revotron engine delivering 86 PS at 6000 RPM and torque of 113 Nm at 3300 RPM. The car includes a 5-speed manual gearbox with an optional 5-speed AMT gearbox available.
Fuel efficiency is another highlight; the manual gearbox offers 18.97 mileage while the automatic provides 18.82 mileage. An electric model is also available for those preferring pollution-free travel. The SUV features modern amenities like a 7-inch touchscreen system, digital instrument cluster, auto AC, automatic headlights, connected car technology, and cruise control.
Safety Ratings & Limitations
Safety is a strong point for Tata Punch cars. It has earned a 5-star rating for adult occupant safety and a 4-star rating for child occupant safety from global NCAP. This makes it Tata Motors' third vehicle after Nexon and Altroz to achieve such high safety ratings.
While these pricing strategies are exclusive to eligible personnel, there are restrictions on how many cars an individual can purchase and how often they can buy through CSD. Military personnel interested in purchasing the Punch SUV should be aware of these limitations.
The Tata Motors Punch SUV continues to lead sales figures while offering significant tax savings through the Army Canteen to eligible customers. Its blend of affordability, performance, and safety features makes it attractive to a wide range of customers, solidifying its status as a prominent vehicle in its segment.
