Tata Nexon Achieves 8 Lakh Sales Milestone In India
The Tata Nexon, a popular sub-4-meter SUV, has reached a significant milestone with 8 lakh units sold in the domestic market. Launched in 2017, the Nexon has become Tata's first SUV to achieve such impressive numbers. If sales continue at this pace, the Nexon could reach the 1-million mark by 2026.
Since its debut, the Nexon's sales journey has been remarkable. Starting with 27,547 units in FY2018, it reached 1,46,723 units by FY2025 (up to February). The first 2 lakh sales took around 45 months until June 2021. However, the next 2 lakh were achieved in just about 16 months by October 2022.

Nexon's Sales Performance and Market Position
In another six months, Nexon hit half a million sales. It then took seven months each to reach six and seven lakh cumulative sales milestones. By July 2024, it had crossed these benchmarks. According to SIAM and industry estimates, Nexon surpassed the 8-lakh cumulative sales mark by February 2025.
This achievement took approximately seven years and five months. For three consecutive years – FY2022 to FY2024 – Nexon was rated as the top-selling SUV. Its best-ever sales were recorded in FY2023 with 172,138 units sold.
Contribution to Tata's PV Segment
Nexon has significantly boosted Tata's ambitions in the passenger vehicle segment. In FY2018, it contributed 13.10% to Tata's overall PV sales. Despite a dip during the Covid period, it bounced back with a contribution of 33.26% in FY2022.
Currently ranked third among sub-4-meter SUVs, Nexon trails behind Maruti Fronx and Maruti Brezza. In terms of bestselling utility vehicles overall, it holds the seventh position.
Future Prospects for Tata Nexon
Tata is developing a next-gen version of Nexon under the codename 'Garud'. Expected to launch in 2027 on an updated X1 platform used since Indica days (1998-2018), this new model will feature major exterior and interior updates along with enhanced equipment offerings.
The upcoming model will likely retain existing petrol and CNG powertrains while diesel options remain uncertain due to stricter emission norms ahead. New rivals like Hyundai Venue or Maruti Brezza continue challenging its dominance within this segment.
The current model received significant updates in both 2020 and again during last year's refresh cycle (2023). As Tata works towards maintaining its market leadership position through continuous innovation efforts such as these developments surrounding future iterations of their flagship compact SUV offering - namely "Nexons" - they aim not only sustain but further expand upon past successes achieved thus far across India's automotive landscape today!
