Tata Nexon EV 45kWh Variant Secures 5-Star Safety Rating From Bharat NCAP

The Tata Nexon EV has set a benchmark in vehicle safety, achieving 5-star rating across its entire range in Bharat NCAP (New Car Safety Assessment Program) crash tests. This accomplishment underscores Tata's commitment to manufacturing vehicles that are not only environmentally friendly but also exceptionally safe for both adults and children.

In the domestic crash testing, the 45kWh versions of the Nexon EV excelled, garnering a commendable score of 29.86 out of 32 in adult occupant protection (AOP) and an impressive 44.95 out of 49 in child occupant protection (COP). These high scores indicate the vehicle's robust safety features and its ability to protect passengers of all ages in the event of an accident.

Comprehensive Safety Features

The top-spec Empowered+ LR variant of the Tata Nexon EV was thoroughly evaluated by BNCAP. It comes loaded with advanced safety features including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat anchor points, 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all passengers, a 360-degree camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). These features play a crucial role in the vehicle's outstanding performance in crash tests, ensuring comprehensive protection.

When it comes to adult occupant protection, the Nexon EV 45kWh demonstrated excellent results. The frontal offset deformable barrier test yielded a score of 14.26 out of 16 points, with areas such as the driver's head, neck, pelvis, thighs, and feet being rated 'good’.

Although chest and tibia protection was deemed 'adequate’, the overall performance was commendable. Similarly, in the side pole impact test and movable deformable barrier test, the vehicle's protection was predominantly rated 'good’, with chest protection noted as 'adequate’.

Exceeding in Child Occupant Protection

The Nexon EV 45kWh's performance in child occupant protection was particularly notable. It achieved a near-perfect score of 23.95 out of 24 in the dynamic test, which assesses the effectiveness of child restraint systems. Both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies received optimal protection in side impact scenarios, with full marks awarded for frontal protection to the 3-year-old dummy. Such high scores reflect the vehicle's excellent capacity to safeguard young passengers.

Comparison with Competitors

When pitted against its chief competitor, the Mahindra XUV400, the Nexon EV holds its own with slightly lower AOP ratings (29.86 versus 30.38) but surpasses in COP scores (44.95 versus 43). This comparison highlights the competitive edge of Tata's electric SUV in terms of safety. Additionally, Tata's entire lineup of electric SUVs, including the Punch EV and Curvv EV, has also received a 5-star BNCAP rating, emphasizing the brand's overarching commitment to safety across its electric vehicle range.

The achievement of a 5-star rating for the 30kWh Nexon EV variant last year and now the 45kWh variants solidifies Tata Nexon EV's position as a leader in vehicle safety. This comprehensive safety assurance applies to the entire Nexon EV lineup, ensuring passengers' well-being is paramount, regardless of the variant.

DriveSpark Thinks

Tata Motors continues to lead the way in vehicle safety, with the Nexon EV lineup exemplifying the company's dedication to protecting its passengers. These achievements in crash test ratings not only elevate the brand's reputation but also set a high standard for safety in the electric vehicle sector.
