Tata Motors Crosses 2.5 Lakh EV Sales, Nexon EV Sets Record

Indian car manufacturer Tata Motors has surpassed the 2.5 lakh sales milestone for its EV division. The company is the leader in the Indian electric car segment, and its Nexon EV has become the first electric car in India to surpass the 1 lakh sales milestone. Tata Motors currently holds a 66% market share in the Indian EV market, with MG Motor in second place and Mahindra in third.

The Nexon EV is the best-selling electric car in India and was launched back in 2020. Over the years, it has dominated the market and reached a wide range of consumers, including first-time car buyers.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. MD & CEO Shailesh Chandra said, "Crossing 250,000 EV sales reflects how electric mobility is fast becoming part of everyday Indian life. As EV adoption accelerates, our commitment remains clear: to mainstream electric mobility by making it accessible across segments, strengthening the ecosystem, and investing in India-first technology and localisation."

Additionally, Tata Motors sells cars such as the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Curvv EV and Harrier EV. The Tata Nexon EV is one of the biggest reasons for their success in the electric market. It is an SUV that offers the best value in terms of safety, features, battery packs and range. The Nexon EV starts at 12.49 lakhs (ex-showroom).

It is designed similarly to the ICE variant and gets a 46.08 kWh battery pack that offers a maximum range of 489 km. Its Gen-2 motor produces 106 kW of power and 215 Nm of torque, and it also features liquid-cooling technology. Using a DC fast charger, it can be charged from 10-80% in just 40 minutes.

Additional features include LED projector headlamps, sunroof, 31.24 cm cinematic touchscreen infotainment system powered by Harman, premium leatherette seat upholstery, front ventilated seats, wireless charger, ABS with EBD, all-disc brakes, six airbags, ESP, and a 5-star NCAP rating.

Tata Motors is planning to launch 5 new EV nameplates by the end of 2030. The first three cars will be launched in 2026, including the Sierra EV, Punch EV and the much-awaited Avinya premium electric car. They are also planning to expand their electric offerings to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
