Tata Motors Sales January 2025 - A Red Month
Indian automaker Tata Motors had a month to forget in January 2025 despite selling a total of 78,159 units last month as Y-o-Y sales dropped by 7%. The company's total sales, encompassing both domestic and global markets, reached 80,304 units—a decrease from the 86,125 units sold in January 2024.
Tata Motors biggest decline came in its passenger vehicle (PV) division. Tata sold a total of 48,316 units last month, a 10.36% (5,557 units) year-over-year decrease compared to the 54,033 units sold in January 2024.

In the PV category, the sales in domestic markets stood at 48,076 units, reflecting a 10% fall from the 53,633 units sold in January 2024. The decline extended to the export market, which experienced a more significant 40% reduction, with 240 units exported compared to 400 units in January 2024.
| Total PVs | Jan-25 | Jan-24 | % |
| Domestic | 48,076 | 53,633 | -10.36 |
| Exports | 240 | 400 | -40.00 |
| Total EVs | 5,240 | 6,979 | -24.92 |
| Total PVs | 48,316 | 54,033 | -10.58 |

The decline in PV sales also impacted Tata Motors' electric vehicle (EV) segment. Despite having the largest EV portfolio among all Manufacturers, the company's EV sales dropped by 25% to 5,240 units in January 2025 from 6,979 units sold in the corresponding month last year.
On a brighter note, Tata Motors' CV segment showed signs of resilience and growth at the onset of 2025. The sales of Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCV) trucks saw a slight uptick of 1%, with 8,990 units sold in January 2025 compared to 8,906 units in January 2024. The Intermediate and Light Medium Commercial Vehicles (ILMCV) trucks segment registered a more robust growth of 12%, with sales increasing to 5,298 units from 4,743 units in the previous year.

Passenger carriers also witnessed a notable demand increase of 18% to 4,582 units. However, the Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) cargo and pick-up trucks segment faced a 15% year-over-year decline, with sales dropping to 11,213 units in January 2025 from 13,122 units in January 2024. This mixed performance led to a slight 2% decrease in total CV domestic sales, totaling 30,083 units in January 2025 compared to 30,643 units in January 2024.
While Tata Motors faced challenges in its PV and certain CV segments last month, the company's focus on its upcoming electric vehicles and its ability to maintain stable sales in other commercial vehicle categories highlight its resilience. The presence of its latest EV models and technologies at the Auto Expo further underscores Tata Motors' dedication to leading the transition towards sustainable mobility.
