Tata Motors Unveils New Leadership Team: Demerger Process Advances
Tata Motors has announced key leadership appointments as part of its ongoing demerger process, which will see its commercial vehicle (CV) and passenger vehicle (PV) businesses operate as two separate entities. The Mumbai-based automotive major confirmed that Girish Wagh and Shailesh Chandra will lead the newly formed divisions, ensuring a smooth transition and continued growth across both arms of the company.
Two Distinct Entities
Under the Tata Motors demerger plan, Tata Motors' commercial vehicles business and its related investments will be consolidated under one entity, while the passenger vehicles business-comprising passenger vehicles, electric vehicles, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), and related investments-will form the second entity. This structural change is aimed at enhancing operational focus, strategic agility, and value creation for shareholders.

Girish Wagh - Commercial Vehicle Division
The company announced that Girish Wagh will take charge of the commercial vehicle business. In a regulatory filing, Tata Motors stated that Wagh has been appointed to the board of TML Commercial Vehicles Ltd, the proposed listed entity for the CV business, as an Additional Director, Managing Director, and CEO. His appointment will take effect on October 1, 2025.
Shailesh Chandra - Passenger Vehicle Operations
For the passenger vehicle entity, Tata Motors has appointed Shailesh Chandra as an Additional Director, Managing Director, and CEO, also effective October 1, 2025, for a tenure of three years ending September 30, 2028. Chandra will continue his current role as the Managing Director of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, the company's wholly owned electric vehicle subsidiary. His leadership will ensure continuity and focus on Tata's rapidly expanding EV portfolio.
Key Board-Level Additions
In addition to these appointments, PB Balaji, who is set to take over as the Global CEO of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), has been appointed as a director on the boards of both the PV and CV entities.
The company has also brought in Sudha Krishnan as an Additional, Non-Executive Independent Director for a five-year term starting October 1, 2025. Meanwhile, Hanne Sorensen will continue to serve on the board of Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc, UK, while Kosaraju Veerayya Chowdary and Guenter Karl Butschek will join the board of TML Commercial Vehicles Ltd.
DriveSpark Thinks
With these appointments, Tata Motors is laying the groundwork for a seamless transition into a dual-entity structure that aligns with its long-term vision. The leadership reshuffle reflects the company's commitment to operational excellence, stronger brand identity, and strategic clarity across its passenger and commercial vehicle businesses.
