TATA Targets 400,000 EV Charge Points By 2027 - A Much Needed Boost For EV Adoption
In an ambitious move to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) across India, TATA.ev, the electric vehicle arm of Tata Motors has announced plans to significantly expand the nation's charging infrastructure. This initiative aims to more than double the existing number of charge points, targeting a total of 400,000 by 2027.
Since its inception in 2019, TATA.ev has played a pivotal role in advancing the EV charging landscape in India. Initially, it focused on facilitating private and home charging solutions through collaborations with Tata Group companies. Subsequently, it ventured into developing public charging infrastructure, particularly in regions with rapid EV adoption. This strategic move provided the necessary support for early EV adopters, encouraging a shift towards cleaner mobility.

Strengthening EV Charging Networks
TATA.ev's 'Open Collaboration 2.0' project sees it partnering with key Charging Point Operators (CPOs). The initiative will see the installation of 30,000 new public charging stations. These facilities will cater to all EV brands, fostering a more inclusive and convenient charging ecosystem. This effort is crucial for supporting the growing demand for sustainable transport solutions and expediting the country's transition to a greener future.
TATA.ev's commitment to enhancing India's EV charging framework has seen the establishment of over 1.5 lakh private/home chargers, 2,500 community chargers, and 750 dealership chargers in over 200 cities. This development marks a significant milestone in ensuring that EV users have reliable and convenient access to charging facilities, thereby encouraging wider adoption of electric mobility.
Launching TATA.ev Mega Chargers
A key component of TATA.ev's strategy involves the rollout of TATA.ev Mega Chargers. This network will provide superfast charging options, ensuring reliability and efficiency for EV users. In a partnership with renowned CPOs including Tata Power, ChargeZone, Statiq, and Zeon, TATA.ev plans to operationalize 500 of these Mega Chargers within two years. Positioned in strategic locations across major cities and highways, these chargers will be accessible to all EVs, with TATA.ev customers benefiting from priority access and tariff advantages.
Addressing the need for a streamlined charging process, TATA.ev is introducing a Unified Payments Wallet and a dedicated Charging Helpline. These initiatives aim to simplify the charging experience, making it more user-friendly and dependable. Moreover, the introduction of TATA.ev Verified Chargers will enable users to easily locate reliable charging stations through the iRA app, enhancing the overall convenience of EV charging.
Mr. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, emphasized the significance of these endeavors, stating, "TATA.ev has been at the forefront of India's EV revolution, not just by introducing world-class electric vehicles, but also by building a robust charging infrastructure nationwide. To enable the exponential growth of EVs in India, we've launched 'Open Collaboration 2.0', aiming to expand the charging network to over 400,000 points in the next two years, in partnership with leading CPOs. This initiative will enhance the speed, reliability, and user experience of charging, while improving the viability of CPOs and facilitating their growth. To enhance the charging experience, we are introducing through partnerships, TATA.ev Mega Chargers in key cities and highways, along with TATA.ev Verified Chargers assuring quality infrastructure. Additionally, a unified Charging Helpline and seamless payment solution are being introduced to help address customer concerns and to make the charging ecosystem more accessible and dependable as EV adoption continues to rise."
