Next month, Japan will welcome a unique addition to its automotive landscape with the introduction of the Jimny 5-door SUV, marking a significant moment in the vehicle's 55-year legacy.
This launch is notable not only because it's the first instance of the Jimny being manufactured in India and then exported to Japan, but also because it heralds the debut of a five-door model in the Jimny's home market. This new variant, dubbed the Jimny Nomade, promises to bring a fresh dimension to the venerable off-roader's lineup.
The Jimny Nomade will come equipped with a comprehensive suite of features aimed at enhancing the driving experience. Among these are a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control for maintaining optimal cabin temperature, a driver's seat with height adjustment capabilities for better ergonomics, and a full LED light package for superior visibility.
Under the hood, the Jimny Nomade will be powered by the tried-and-tested K15B engine. This powertrain is capable of generating 109bhp and 136Nm of torque. Buyers will have the option to choose between a five-speed manual transmission (MT) or a four-speed automatic transmission (AT).
Additionally, a four-wheel-drive (4WD) system comes as standard, complete with a low-range transfer case. This allows drivers to switch between 2WD and 4WD, providing flexibility and confidence across various terrains.
Safety is a paramount concern for the Jimny Nomade, with each model equipped with at least six airbags, a 360-degree camera for enhanced visibility, and ISOFIX child seat mounting points for families. These safety features underscore the vehicle's readiness for all sorts of adventures while prioritizing passenger protection.
When it becomes available in Japan, the Jimny will be offered in both three-door and five-door configurations, catering to a wide array of tastes and requirements.
Despite its compact stature in the Indian market, the Jimny is considered a large vehicle in Japan. This perception subjects it to higher taxation, especially when compared to the three-door model, due to its deviation from the latest Kei car regulations.
