Suzuki Jimny Nomade SUV Bookings To Resume In 2026

While the 5-door Jimny hasn't found many takers in India, it has become a sensation in Japan, where it's sold as the Jimny Nomade. When Suzuki launched the extended-wheelbase Jimny in Japan earlier this year, demand exploded - with over 50,000 bookings in just four days. The overwhelming response pushed waiting periods to nearly four years, prompting Suzuki to suspend bookings.

Now, the company has announced that bookings will reopen in January 2026, bringing relief to thousands of Japanese enthusiasts eagerly waiting for their compact off-roader.

Jimny Nomade Bookings To Resume In 2026

Suzuki has confirmed that bookings for the Jimny Nomade will reopen on January 30, 2026, exactly a year after reservations were first opened in Japan. The SUV has faced multiple supply challenges since its introduction - including a temporary suspension of shipments in July 2025, which was resolved by late August.

The reopening of bookings signals improved supply stability and Suzuki's commitment to meeting soaring demand in Japan.

High Demand & Production Challenges

The Jimny Nomade's massive popularity in Japan has been a double-edged sword. The 5-door Jimny is manufactured exclusively in India, at Maruti Suzuki's Gurugram facility, and exported to markets such as Japan, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, and Chile.

When the Nomade debuted in Japan, production capacity stood at 1,200 units per month. By July 2025, Suzuki ramped this up to 3,300 units per month to reduce delivery delays.

If production continues to rise at this pace, the current four-year waiting period could soon see a significant reduction.

Powertrain & Key Specifications

The Jimny Nomade is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 102PS and 130Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

True to the Jimny's off-road heritage, the Nomade features Suzuki's AllGrip Pro 4WD system with part-time 4WD and a low-range transfer case for enhanced off-road performance.

The SUV is built on a ladder-frame chassis and uses a 3-link rigid axle suspension with coil springs. It offers a 210mm ground clearance, 36 deg approach angle, 46 deg departure angle, and 24 deg breakover angle, ensuring excellent off-road geometry.

Safety & Features

In Japan, the Jimny Nomade was recently updated with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), making it safer and more technologically advanced. Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descent Control, and brake limited-slip differential.

These updates make the Jimny Nomade not just a capable off-roader, but also a well-rounded SUV for urban and highway use.

DriveSpark Thinks

The 5-door Jimny Nomade is a true "Made in India, for the world" success story. Despite tepid response in India, its global demand - especially in Japan - underscores the universal appeal of Suzuki's compact 4x4. With bookings set to reopen and production scaled up, the Jimny Nomade continues to prove that big demand can come in a small, boxy package.
