Fronx Flex Fuel E85 To Be Showcased This Year At...
Suzuki is gearing up for the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, scheduled from October 29 to November 9, where it will unveil a range of next-generation vehicles and concepts across two-wheelers and cars.
The focus will be on sustainable mobility, featuring green fuel and electrification technologies. Among the highlights will be the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Flex-Fuel E85 - a model that appears close to production readiness.

Fronx Flex-Fuel (E85)
The Fronx flex-fuel variant is expected to use a modified version of the 1.2-litre petrol engine already seen in the Wagon R flex-fuel concept. While official specifications are yet to be revealed, the Fronx E85 will be fully compliant with up to 85 percent ethanol content. E85 fuel significantly reduces harmful emissions such as benzene, contributing to cleaner combustion and reduced engine wear.
To handle ethanol-blended fuel, E85-compatible vehicles use ethanol-resistant materials for key components such as the fuel tank, lines, pump, injectors, and seals. They also rely on advanced sensors that measure ethanol concentration in real time, allowing a dedicated flex-fuel ECU to adjust ignition timing, air-fuel ratio, and idle speed automatically. Although naturally aspirated engines see limited performance gains, E85's higher octane rating (100-110) allows smoother torque delivery and improved efficiency.
Exterior Design
The Fronx Flex-Fuel is expected to retain its familiar sporty crossover design. However, we do expect slightly distinguishable cosmetic elements. Images reveal decals along the bonnet, fenders, and doors, with bold "FLEX FUEL" lettering on the sides. The production version may feature unique badging to highlight its alternative-fuel capability.
Visually, the model remains identical to the standard Fronx sold through Maruti Suzuki's Nexa outlets in India. It continues to feature a bold front fascia with a wave-pattern grille, sharp LED DRLs, sculpted body lines, connected LED tail lamps, and precision-cut alloy wheels.
Present Powertrain Options
The standard Fronx in India is available with two petrol engine options. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated unit produces 89PS and 113Nm, paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearbox. A CNG version of this engine delivers 77.5PS and 98.5Nm, available exclusively with the manual transmission. The higher-spec 1.0-litre turbo-petrol variant produces 100PS and 147.6Nm, offered with both a 5-speed manual or an optional 6-speed automatic.
