Stellantis Celebrates 100 Years Of Operations In Canada With New Vehicle Launches And Community Events
Chrysler Canada marks its 100th anniversary since its incorporation in Windsor, Ontario, on June 17, 1925. To celebrate, a Family Day event is scheduled for June 22 at the Windsor Assembly Plant for employees and their families. The public can join a car show organised by Cars & Coffee Windsor along Chrysler Centre Road, starting at 9 a.m., with proceeds supporting the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village.
Jeff Hines, president and CEO of Stellantis Canada, expressed pride in the company's legacy. "As we celebrate a century of operations here in Canada, we are incredibly proud of our legacy. We have been an instrumental player in helping to shape the automotive industry through bold innovation, engineering excellence and timeless, yet affordable designs," he stated. The company has grown from 181 employees in 1925 to nearly 9,000 today.
The Chrysler brand has introduced the new assembled-in-Windsor Chrysler Pacifica 100th Anniversary Edition to honour its century-long journey. This special edition features Semi-Gloss Granite Crystal accents and unique polished luster grey wheels. It is available in Red Hot, Bright White, and Hydro Blue exterior colours with gas or plug-in hybrid powertrains. In Canada, it starts at $59,190.
In addition to celebrating its past achievements, Chrysler is looking forward to future innovations. Special commemorative signage will be installed at the plant and surrounding roadways. These signs will highlight the company's products and Canadian heritage with the tagline: "You didn’t just ride along. You drove us."
Stellantis operates seven automotive brands in Canada: Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, FIAT, Jeep, Ram, and Mopar. These brands are sold through approximately 440 dealers nationwide. The company also distributes Mopar and Alfa Romeo parts and accessories across Canada.
The Windsor Assembly Plant produces several models including the Chrysler Pacifica and Dodge Charger. Meanwhile, the Brampton Assembly Plant is undergoing retooling for next-generation products. Stellantis also operates a key metals casting plant in Etobicoke.
Research and Development Initiatives
The Automotive Research and Development Centre (ARDC) in Windsor was established as a partnership between the University of Windsor and Chrysler Canada in 1996. It focuses on automotive research and education. Soon to open is Stellantis North America Battery Technology Centre at ARDC for developing advanced battery technologies.
In 2022, Stellantis partnered with LG Energy Solution to create NextStar Energy. This joint venture aims to establish Canada's first large-scale lithium-ion battery production plant in Windsor to support Stellantis' vehicle production needs across North America.
