Stefan Mecha Takes Over As Chairman Of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Board From Carsten Intra
Stefan Mecha is set to become the Chairman of the Board of Management for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles on July 1, 2025. He will succeed Prof. Dr. Carsten Intra, who is retiring for personal reasons. Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Brand, expressed confidence in Mecha's ability to elevate the brand and enhance cooperation within the Brand Group Core.
Prof. Dr. Carsten Intra has been instrumental in launching key models like the ID. Buzz and Transporter, paving the way for future advancements in light commercial vehicles. His tenure saw a focus on autonomous driving and strengthening VWN’s profile with the 'California' sub-brand. Schäfer praised Intra's contributions and wished him well in his retirement.
Mecha currently serves as Executive CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars for China. His extensive experience spans regions such as Brazil, South Africa, Russia, and China, where he achieved success through teamwork and market insight. Schäfer noted that Mecha's first role at Volkswagen was in sales at "Nutzis," highlighting his deep connection with the company.
Intra began his career in 2001 as a production engineer at MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG before taking on various international management roles. As CEO of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles since September 2020, he led the brand to record earnings in 2023 by steering it onto a growth path.
Under Intra's leadership, strategic development in autonomous driving set a course for future mobility solutions. His efforts have positioned Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for continued success in this evolving sector.
Mecha has been part of the Volkswagen Group for over 15 years, holding positions at Sixt AG and Daimler AG before joining Volkswagen AG. He became Regional Sales Director for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Western Europe in 2005 and later held various sales roles across Europe and the Middle East.
