Škoda Reimagines The Iconic Favorit As A Contemporary Electric Concept

Škoda has unveiled a new concept car that pays homage to one of its most iconic models, the Favorit. This electric concept is part of a series of modern reinterpretations of classic Škoda vehicles. The Favorit, originally launched in the late 1980s, was a pivotal model for Škoda, marking its transformation into a global brand.

The original Favorit was developed under challenging conditions during the Iron Curtain era. Despite limited resources, it combined appealing design with practical features, gaining international recognition. Designer Ljudmil Slavov has now reimagined this legendary model using Škoda's Modern Solid design language.

Slavov faced challenges in redesigning the Favorit without relying on current design elements like the Tech-Deck Face. "This is a tribute to the Favorit," he explains. "I carefully studied the original details, aiming to evolve and elevate them." The result is a captivating concept that feels modern while retaining cues from the original.

A standout feature of the new Favorit is its headlight design, which nods to the original model's large headlamps. In the late 1980s, even Bertone struggled with integrating these mass-produced lights into the car's design. Slavov's solution uses ultra-slim LED strips behind semi-transparent covers that mimic the size and volume of the original lamps.

"These covers allow the lights to project different patterns, which owners could personalise," Slavov says. Although this reinterpretation isn't intended for production, it highlights Škoda's commitment to blending tradition with innovation as it looks to the future.

Škoda's Vision for 2030

Škoda aims to be among Europe's top five best-selling brands by 2030 through its Next Level – Škoda Strategy 2030. This strategy includes expanding its lineup with more entry-level and electric models. The brand also seeks growth in markets like India and North Africa.

Currently, Škoda offers eleven passenger-car series and delivered over 731,000 vehicles globally in 2022. As part of the Volkswagen Group for 30 years, Škoda manufactures not only vehicles but also components like MEB battery systems and engines.

Global Presence and Production

Škoda operates at three sites in Czech Republic and has additional production capacity in China, Slovakia, India, and Ukraine through partnerships. Employing over 40,000 people worldwide, Škoda remains active in more than 100 markets globally.

The new Favorit concept underscores how Škoda honours its past while embracing future innovations. With more iconic re-imaginings planned, Škoda continues to showcase how tradition and modernity will shape its journey ahead.
