New Skoda Kodiaq To Be Launched On April 17: An SUV Worth Your Wait?
The forthcoming Skoda Kodiaq, set to be unveiled in India with its prices announced on April 17, heralds a significant update over its predecessor. This second-generation model, available in Laurin and Klement (L&K) and Sportline trims, will continue to be assembled locally.
The new Kodiaq is expected to command a price tag around the Rs 45 lakh mark (ex-showroom), positioning it directly against competitors such as the Jeep Meridian, Hyundai Tucson, and the anticipated Volkswagen Tiguan R Line. The SUV is not just a facelift but an evolution with a host of new features, a refreshed exterior design, and a powerful 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine under its bonnet.

The heart of the new Kodiaq is its 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, capable of delivering 204hp and 320Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 7-speed DCT gearbox, supporting all-wheel drive as standard, ensuring a blend of performance and practicality. Notably, the new Kodiaq promises an ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of 14.86kpl, making it a compelling choice for those seeking power without compromising on fuel economy. Despite its enhanced dimensions, growing by 59mm in overall length, the Kodiaq's wheelbase remains unchanged, promising spaciousness and comfort.
Design and Features of the New Skoda Kodiaq
The new Kodiaq distinguishes itself with a design that evolves from its predecessor, featuring a split headlamp setup with new LED daytime running lights and an updated grille with illuminated accents. A light bar connects the C-shaped tail-lamps across the tailgate, while 18-inch wheels come as standard, lending the SUV a robust and stylish appearance. The Sportline variant stands out with its blacked-out exterior elements, including the grille, D-pillar, and rear bumper, alongside sportier alloy wheel designs.
Inside, the Kodiaq boasts a revamped interior highlighted by a winged dashboard design and a 13-inch free-floating touchscreen infotainment system taking center stage. This is complemented by a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a new two-spoke steering wheel embellished with 'Skoda’ lettering. The HVAC controls are innovatively integrated into three rotary dials, which are configurable for various functions, enhancing the cabin's ergonomics and aesthetics.
Laurin & Klement and Sportline Trims
The Laurin & Klement variant of the new Kodiaq is adorned with Cognac leather upholstery, elevating its luxury appeal. This trim level is equipped with a plethora of features including 3-zone climate control, powered front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, park assist, and heated/ventilated front seats with a massage function. Conversely, the Sportline trim, while missing out on the heating/ventilation and massage features, compensates with sportier bucket seats, catering to those who favor performance-oriented aesthetics and comfort.
