Skoda Enyaq RS Race: A Sustainable Motorsport Concept For Future Production Models
Škoda Motorsport has unveiled its latest all-electric racing car concept, the Enyaq RS Race. This vehicle, rooted in Škoda's racing heritage, is based on the new Škoda Enyaq Coupé vRS. It features a lower and wider design, shedding over 300 kg compared to its predecessor. The concept serves as a pilot project for future production models, incorporating sustainable and lightweight materials.
The Enyaq RS Race incorporates biocomposite parts that offer similar rigidity and weight benefits as carbon fibre. These materials contribute to significant weight reduction while maintaining performance. Engineers have replaced traditional components with sustainable alternatives, including flax fibres developed with Bcomp. This approach not only reduces weight but also lowers CO2 emissions by approximately 85%.
Škoda Motorsport's engineers have utilised these biocomposite parts throughout the vehicle. They are used in both the interior and exterior, including bumpers, fenders, and even the roof. The use of flax fibres extends to interior elements like the dashboard and door panels, providing both functional and aesthetic benefits.
The Enyaq RS Race features numerous technical upgrades to enhance its racing capabilities. It includes a high-performance braking system with carbon-ceramic brake discs and advanced callipers. The suspension system has been specially designed for sports performance, allowing individual adjustments for optimal handling.
Additionally, the concept car is equipped with limited-slip differentials on both axles to improve acceleration and handling. The two electric motors deliver a combined output of 250 kW, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under five seconds.
Aerodynamic Optimisation
Aerodynamics play a crucial role in the Enyaq RS Race's design. The bodywork has been widened and optimised for better airflow. A large rear wing, redesigned bumpers, and an aerodynamically optimised roof contribute to increased downforce at higher speeds.
The vehicle also features protective skids on its underside to prevent excessive wear on chassis components. Ventilation grilles in the wheel arches enhance both aerodynamics and brake cooling.
Interior Features Inspired by Motorsport
The interior of the Enyaq RS Race draws inspiration from Škoda Fabia RS Rally2. It includes a modified infotainment system and a racing steering wheel with new buttons for enhanced control during races. Linear steering replaces the progressive rack-and-pinion system used in other models.
The drive selector and central panel are positioned between the seats for easy access during races. Safety features include Atech racing seats with six-point seatbelts and an automatic fire extinguisher system.
Enhanced Sound System
The Havas premium sound system in the Enyaq RS Race delivers an authentic motorsport experience through a digital sound amplifier. This system is more powerful than that in standard models, featuring larger loudspeakers for an exhilarating acoustic experience at speeds above 18 mph.
Škoda Auto aims to become one of Europe's top three best-selling brands by decade's end through its Next Level Škoda Strategy. With attractive offers in entry-level segments and additional electric models, it seeks growth in markets like India and North Africa while maintaining production capacities worldwide.
