Skoda Enyaq RS Race Revealed: The Electric Rally Car Of The Future

Skoda has introduced a new concept car, the Enyaq RS Race, which envisions a two-ton electric racer inspired by WRC. This concept is based on the Skoda Enyaq Coupe and features updates from last year's version, incorporating the latest road car's visual enhancements. The design draws inspiration from the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, showcasing Skoda's ongoing interest in high-level motorsport.

The Enyaq RS Race boasts significant weight reduction compared to the road-going Skoda Enyaq vRS. It sheds 316kg (697lb), improving its 0-62mph time to under five seconds from the original 5.3 seconds. This weight loss is achieved through a stripped-out interior and polycarbonate windows, despite additional weight from a roll cage and chassis upgrades.

Electric Powertrain and Performance

The concept retains the road car's electric powertrain, delivering 335bhp from a dual-motor setup powered by a 79kWh battery pack. Unique to this model are limited-slip differentials on both motors, enhancing power delivery through larger 20-inch wheels and tyres. These are complemented by carbon-ceramic brakes with 10-piston calipers at the front and four-piston calipers at the rear.

Chassis modifications include lowering it by 70mm and widening tracks by 72mm at the front and 112mm at the rear. New springs, dampers, and a fixed-ratio steering system replace the progressive rack found in the road car. The body features flared arches, a chin spoiler, and a large rear wing, embodying what a WRC contender might look like.

Interior Features

Inside, the cabin maintains a 13-inch touchscreen for main controls alongside bucket seats and an audio system that produces an adjustable 'racy' electric motor sound. Despite these changes, Skoda has yet to confirm if this concept will transition into production or remain an innovative showcase of their engineering capabilities.

"All Skoda needs to do now is go and build it," suggests enthusiasm for seeing such concepts become reality. The potential for this vehicle to hit roads remains uncertain but intriguing for automotive enthusiasts.
