Six Drivers Secure Victories In Porsche Carrera Cup North America At Watkins Glen
The Porsche Carrera Cup North America reached its halfway mark at Watkins Glen, showcasing intense competition. Riley Dickinson and Zachary Vanier claimed victories in the Exxon Mobil Pro Class for Kellymoss and JDX Racing, respectively. Alan Metni and JP Martinez split wins in the Solairus Pro-Am class, while Scott Blind and Todd Parriott shared honours in the Solairus Masters class.
Riley Dickinson's fourth win of the season came on Friday from third on the grid. He quickly moved past Jimmy Llibre to chase leader Ryan Yardley. Dickinson overtook Yardley through the "boot" section at Watkins Glen, maintaining his lead despite two caution periods. Alan Metni secured his first Pro-Am victory of the season, leading throughout both restarts.
In the Pro-Am category, Alan Metni led from start to finish in Race 1, securing his first win of the season. JP Martinez took advantage of Metni's misfortune in Race 2 to claim victory after a punctured tire forced Metni to pit. Brady Behrman joined Martinez on the podium for his first career appearance.
Scott Blind continued his dominance in the Masters class with a sixth win in Race 1. However, an early exit in Race 2 opened up opportunities for others. Todd Parriott capitalised on this to secure his second win of the season, with Peter Atwater and Rob Walker completing the podium.
Zachary Vanier emerged victorious in Saturday's race after avoiding a first-lap incident involving eight cars. Starting fifth, he swiftly moved into the lead as chaos unfolded behind him. Teammates Tyler Maxson and Ryan Yardley chased Vanier but finished just short of victory.
The race saw significant disruptions with multiple incidents between turns one and two. Riley Dickinson faced contact with Jimmy Llibre, resulting in a pit stop before rejoining at the back of the field. Despite this setback, Dickinson managed to finish 13th and set the fastest lap for an extra point.
Championship Standings
The championship battle is heating up as Ryan Yardley trails Riley Dickinson by only five points in the Pro class standings. Dickinson leads with three wins this season, while Yardley's consistent performances have kept him close behind.
In other categories, JP Martinez holds a strong lead in Pro-Am standings, while Scott Blind remains ahead in Masters despite his Race 2 exit at Watkins Glen. Topp Racing continues to lead in team standings thanks to contributions from Yardley and Maxson.
Rookie Competition
The Rookie championship remains competitive with Aaron Jeansonne leading Tyler Maxson by six points at mid-season. Despite trailing Jeansonne in rookie points, Maxson ranks higher overall due to strong performances throughout the season.
The next round will take place at Road America from July 31 to August 3, promising more thrilling races as competitors vie for championship glory.
"It feels great," said Riley Dickinson after winning Race 1 at Watkins Glen. "This is my first win here; it's been a long time coming." Zachary Vanier expressed similar sentiments following his Race 2 victory: "This one feels absolutely amazing."
