Every Bugatti W16 Mistral undergoes a meticulous quality check before reaching its owner. This process involves a 400-kilometre test across Alsace's varied landscapes. The aim is to ensure each car meets Bugatti's high standards. This rigorous evaluation confirms the vehicle's functionality and embodies the brand's essence of quality and craftsmanship.
The testing route through Alsace offers diverse challenges for the W16 Mistral. It includes traditional villages, winding roads, highways, and mountain passes. Each part of the route tests different aspects of the car, from agility to stability and powertrain performance under various conditions.
Bugatti's evaluation extends beyond mechanical systems to include sensory experiences. Noise testing covers scenarios with and without the soft-top roof, examining wind and road noise, exhaust acoustics, and chassis dynamics. Transmission behaviour is also scrutinised during acceleration and deceleration under different loads.
Only three specialists are qualified to conduct these assessments for the W16 Mistral. Their expertise ensures that every detail is meticulously evaluated. These experts undergo extensive training, including supervised drives with senior evaluators, before performing independent assessments.
Bugatti relies heavily on human senses for quality validation. Ninety percent of the assessment comes from personal analysis by expert drivers using sight, sound, and touch. They can detect subtle irregularities that might indicate potential issues, recording observations for further analysis.
The remaining ten percent of evaluation uses advanced electronic diagnostics. Bugatti's internal telemetry systems and precise data loggers monitor performance metrics throughout each test drive kilometre.
High-Speed Track Testing
The testing program concludes with high-speed sessions at Colmar airfield. Here, emergency braking systems, ESP, and ABS are tested at speeds up to 300 km/h. The removable roof mechanism also undergoes additional scrutiny to ensure it performs flawlessly at high speeds.
Bugatti's iterative assessment method guarantees perfection by identifying and resolving any irregularities. A secondary verification test confirms all corrections' effectiveness, repeating as needed until flawless performance is achieved under all conditions.
