Rethinking Electric Light Commercial Vehicles: Innovations In Renault Trafic, Goelette, And Estafette

Renault, a leader in van design and electric light commercial vehicles (LCVs), is set to enhance its market position with a new range of innovative electric LCVs. Developed by FLEXIS, these models will be the first Renault vehicles to feature the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architecture by Ampere. They will also incorporate 800V technology, enabling charging from 15% to 80% in under 20 minutes for a range of up to 450 km WLTP.

Renault's all-electric skateboard platform allows for various body styles, offering extensive customisation options for business users. The Trafic, Goelette, and Estafette models share a common foundation but cater to different business needs. This approach continues Renault's tradition of innovation in electric commercial vehicles, which began with the Kangoo 15 years ago.

The new Renault Master has been named "International Van Of The Year 2025," setting new standards with its unique "Aerovan" design. This model offers exceptional efficiency in both internal combustion and electric versions. Renault is now advancing further with a fresh family of electric vans developed by FLEXIS, tailored to meet modern professional demands.

Renault's commitment to sustainability is evident in the increased use of recycled materials in these vehicles. Currently, 22.5% of materials used are recycled, excluding the battery. By 2030, Renault aims for 33% recycled content across its vehicles. These efforts align with their broader ecological objectives.

The Trafic, Goelette, and Estafette E-Tech models offer two battery choices: standard range and long range. The long-range battery uses NMC technology for maximum energy density, providing around 450 km WLTP on the Trafic model. For urban-focused users, the standard range battery employs LFP technology without rare metals like cobalt and nickel, offering nearly 350 km WLTP on Trafic.

These batteries also benefit from new 800V fast-charging technology, a first for Renault vehicles. With a DC fast-charging point, users can charge from 15% to 80% in less than 20 minutes, simplifying daily operations for businesses.

Innovative Design Features

The Trafic E-Tech stands out as an all-rounder with its SDV electric version enhancing versatility through compact dimensions and connectivity. Since its launch in 1980, over 2.5 million units have been produced across three generations. The fourth-generation all-electric model signifies a significant shift in design and functionality.

This model features an EV skateboard platform with an underfloor battery and rear-mounted powertrain. The L1 van offers a load capacity of 5.1 m3, while the L2 van provides 5.8 m3. Both maintain a height of under two metres for easy access to underground car parks.

Enhanced Connectivity and Safety

The SDV architecture enables automatic updates throughout the vehicle's life cycle without obsolescence issues. It integrates seamlessly into professional ecosystems by incorporating digital interfaces directly into the vehicle's core system.

The Trafic E-Tech also includes V2X functionalities such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G). These allow external device charging or grid integration using bidirectional chargers.

Production and Customisation

The Trafic, Goelette, and Estafette will be manufactured at Renault Group's Sandouville plant in France alongside other models like the Trafic ICE version continuing its market journey there too.

This facility will also produce custom bodies through Qstomize—a subsidiary specialising in LCV customisation—ensuring high-quality manufacturing standards across all conversions offered by certified bodybuilders or within factory settings themselves.

A Modern Cockpit Experience

The cockpit design takes inspiration from disruptive approaches featuring robust tube-shaped dashboards running across cabins equipped with dual screens: one being an instrument cluster measuring ten inches while another central screen measures twelve inches facing drivers directly (X°).

Storage solutions abound within cockpits including closed gloveboxes alongside open compartments partitioned appropriately ensuring ample space availability even amidst busy workdays requiring frequent access points throughout journeys undertaken daily by professionals relying heavily upon these versatile vans' capabilities overall performance-wise too!
