Renault stated in its reply to Ankur Thakur that his car, the 2022 Renault "Triber has not been tested for compatibility with E20 fuel. Therefore, the use of E20 fuel in your vehicle is not advisable." Thakur tweeted that he's only covered 13,000km in the time he's owned the 2022 Renault Triber.
The warning follows a series of concerns expressed by other manufacturers regarding E20 fuel in older models. Both Toyota and MG have previously issued similar advisories, asking customers to avoid E20 if their cars were not specifically approved for it. Renault's response now adds to the growing list of brands taking a cautious approach.

Customer queries have increased as more fuel stations begin offering E20 across the country. Owners of older vehicles, particularly those from the 2022 model year and earlier, are seeking clarification to avoid long-term issues. Renault's direct acknowledgement provides a clear position for Triber owners and others with pre-2023 Renault cars.
The company has not indicated any retrofitting options or solutions for older vehicles at this stage. For now, Renault has only confirmed that its newer models, launched after 2023, are designed to operate with E20 petrol without any issues.
E20 petrol is a fuel mixture containing 20 per cent ethanol and 80 per cent petrol. The government of India has pushed for its use to reduce reliance on fossil fuel imports and to support the domestic production of Ethanol. However, the rollout has raised questions about compatibility with vehicles that were developed before the fuel's introduction.

This advisory from Renault arrives as fuel stations across multiple states continue expanding E20 availability, with plans for wider coverage in the coming months. For owners of older Renault cars, as well as cars from other brands except for Honda (which has stated that all of its cars since 2009 are E20 compliant), it would be a better option to lower blends of ethanol-infused petrol.
Following the publishing of this article On August 26th, Renault India has issues a statement considering the use of E20 fuels.

Recent queries regarding the use of E20 fuel in vehicles tested and certified for E10 have prompted the need for clarification based on concerns raised by customers.
As per the then prevailing norms, E-10 was the declared fuel for the purposes of Type Approval and Production tests of the said Renault Triber (Model 2022).
To answer the specific query on E10 compliant cars, a rigorous durability testing was conducted jointly by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and ARAI, involving various fuel combinations, including the use of E20 fuel in vehicles certified for E10. The draft report of this study, shared with all OEMs (Pursuant to MoPNG letter No. P-13045(18)/19/2017-CC(E-13946)), while acknowledging that the present on-road vehicles are compatible for E20, concluded that there is no adverse impact from using E20 fuel in E10-compliant vehicles.
Based on these findings, no serious challenges have been perceived in Renault cars plying on roads using E20 fuel in E10 compliant and tested vehicles.
