Renault Launches Government-Approved CNG Kits For Kwid, Triber, & Kiger

Renault has introduced Government-approved CNG kits for its vehicles, aiming to enhance customer satisfaction. These kits are available for manual and naturally aspirated engine variants of the Kwid, Triber, and Kiger models. However, Renault has not disclosed the mileage figures for these vehicles equipped with the CNG kits.

The pricing for Renault's retrofitment CNG kits starts at Rs 75,000 for the Kwid and Rs 79,500 for both the Kiger and Triber. These are not factory-fitted but retrofitted kits installed through a preferred vendor using a homologated kit that complies with all safety standards.

Availability & Variants

Currently, Renault is offering these CNG kits in Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Gujarat. These states account for 65% of Renault's market share. The company plans to expand availability to more states in a phased manner over the coming months.

Renault provides these CNG kits exclusively with the 1.0L 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine paired with a manual gearbox. Turbo CNG and automatic CNG options are not available. Additionally, Renault has not clarified if existing customers can avail of these kits or if they are compatible with Turbo engines or automatic gearboxes.

Warranty Performance

The retrofit CNG kits from Renault come with a three-year warranty, ensuring peace of mind for potential buyers. Despite promising economical mobility solutions, Renault has not provided any claimed mileage figures for these kits.

Renault assures that installing these retrofit CNG kits does not affect vehicle performance. The company emphasises that the development and customisation of these kits ensure uniformity and standardisation in fitments across models.

Industry Context

Honda has also ventured into offering homologated CNG kits similar to Renault's approach. In contrast, factory-fitted CNG kits are predominantly offered by Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Hyundai Motor India Ltd.

Mr. Venkatram M., Managing Director and Country CEO of Renault India stated: "Our commitment to innovation and sustainability drives us to continuously improve our offerings. The introduction of the Govt.-approved CNG retrofitment kit across all models is a testament to our dedication to providing eco-friendly and smart solutions for our customers."

This initiative aims to make Renault cars more accessible and practical while reinforcing their position in India’s automotive market.
