Renault Group Finalises Strategic Partnership With Wandercraft To Develop Next Generation Robotics

Renault Group has finalised a minority investment in Wandercraft, a French leader in AI-driven robotic exoskeletons. This collaboration aims to develop advanced robots for Renault's manufacturing processes. The partnership combines Renault's industrial expertise with Wandercraft's technology, enhancing production capabilities and opening new business avenues in robotics.

Renault Group's investment in Wandercraft is supported by existing shareholders and new investors. Together, they plan to create the Calvin series of next-generation robots for industrial applications. These robots will help Renault reduce production time and improve worker ergonomics by handling strenuous tasks.

Renault and Wandercraft Partner for Robotics

Thierry Charvet, Chief Industry and Quality Officer at Renault Group, stated, "This partnership with Wandercraft is a forward-looking move. It will allow us to accelerate on automation and to develop robots for our specific auto industrial use, giving us the opportunity to concentrate our people on more value-adding tasks and alleviate operators from painful and non-ergonomics duties."

Wandercraft is renowned for its self-balancing exoskeletons used in medical settings. Their technology supports individuals with mobility challenges. With over 30 patents, their Atalante exoskeletons are operational in hospitals worldwide. The upcoming personal exoskeleton, Eve, aims to assist quadriparetic individuals.

Matthieu Masselin, CEO of Wandercraft, remarked, "Renault Group’s investment marks a defining moment for Wandercraft. This partnership will boost our ability to build and scale high-impact, low-cost robotics that improve the everyday lives of real people—whether it’s helping individuals with disabilities walk or supporting industrial workers through automation."

Future Prospects

The collaboration will eventually lead to the mass production of robots and exoskeletons by Renault Group. This strategy focuses on cost reduction through design-to-cost principles and scaling up production. Such efforts are expected to make Wandercraft's new exoskeleton Eve widely available.

Wandercraft's commitment to advancing robotics is evident in their development of Calvin 40 within 40 days. This robot is part of the Calvin family designed for diverse applications. Their proprietary neural network enhances these technologies by analysing extensive human motion data.

Renault Group continues its transformation towards sustainable mobility solutions across its brands: Renault, Dacia, Alpine, and Mobilize. With operations in 114 countries and over 98,000 employees, the group sold 2.265 million vehicles in 2024. They aim for carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040.

Wandercraft was founded in 2012 with a mission to deploy advanced robotics for human benefit. Their humanoid exoskeletons collectively take over a million steps monthly. These innovations are driven by real-world movement data collected globally.

This strategic partnership between Renault Group and Wandercraft signifies a significant step towards integrating cutting-edge robotics into industrial processes while enhancing mobility solutions for those who need them most.
