Renault Duster E-4WD Variant Details: Powertrain, Features & More
The Renault Duster is set to expand its lineup with the introduction of multiple powertrain options, including an e-4WD variant. This new model, featuring a rear-axle-mounted electric motor, aims to cater to diverse customer preferences and budgets.
Renault Duster e-4WD: Insights
Recent spy images reveal the electric motor positioned on the rear axle of the Duster e-4WD. Developed in collaboration with French automotive supplier Valeo, this setup resembles that of the Jeep Avenger 4xe. Although not officially confirmed, Renault might employ a 1.2-litre turbo petrol 48V mild hybrid engine for this variant.

The current model's powertrain delivers 130hp and comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox. It offers both front-wheel drive and mechanical 4×4 configurations. The upcoming e-4WD will differ by incorporating an electric 4×4 system and is anticipated to feature an automatic transmission.
Engine Options
The existing Duster lineup includes two other engine choices. Base models are equipped with a 100hp, 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that supports LPG as bi-fuel, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission in FWD format. Additionally, there's a full hybrid version with a 1.6-litre petrol engine and two electric motors, producing a combined output of 140hp, also available only in FWD.

In such setups, power is automatically directed to the rear wheels when grip loss is detected. Users can manually select the 4×4 option depending on the model. For instance, an off-road mode is available in international markets for the Duster.
Launch Timeline and Market Expectations
The new e-4WD is expected to hit European dealerships by the second quarter of CY2026, with an official unveiling likely by year-end. The LPG version should debut around the same time. In India, the third-gen Renault Duster is slated for a 2026 launch, with production starting in September.
It remains uncertain if India will receive the 4×4 version. If introduced, it could become a unique selling point due to limited competition in this segment from models like Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder.
