Renault Duster & Bigster Get Hybrid System, All-Wheel Drive, & 1,500km Range: All Details Here

Renault's new-gen Duster and Bigster SUVs have taken a big step forward in Europe under the Dacia brand. The duo now gets a Hybrid-G 150 4×4 bi-fuel powertrain that combines petrol, LPG, and electric assistance. The result is an SUV package designed for performance, efficiency, and long-distance usability - with added updates to make the cabin and trims more appealing.

Hybrid-G 150 4×4

The new powertrain is built around a 1.2-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine, working with a 48V mild-hybrid system. On its own, the engine delivers 140PS and 230Nm of torque, while an electric motor mounted on the rear axle produces another 31PS and 87Nm of torque. Combined output stands at an impressive 154PS!

The model also comes equipped with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (with paddle shifters, a first for Dacia). Moreover, the rear-mounted electric motor sports an independent 2-speed gearbox.

To power this electric motor, the models use a 48V, 0.84 kWh lithium-ion battery pack capable of regenerative charging. This electric motor isn't just for short bursts of assistance - it can also independently power the rear wheels, effectively creating a proper all-wheel-drive system.

According to Dacia, this hybrid setup can cover around 60% of city driving in pure electric mode, reducing emissions and saving fuel in stop-and-go traffic.

Advanced 4×4 Capabilities

Unlike many mild-hybrid SUVs that merely improve efficiency, the Duster and Bigster Hybrid-G 150 4×4 are engineered for real-world versatility. In fact, the AWD mode can operate at speeds up to 140km/h and the model comes with multiple drive modes - Auto, Eco, Snow, Mud/Sand, Lock, Hill Descent Control.

Mileage & Range

One of the standout features of the new Duster & Bigster are its dual-tank design - a 50-litre petrol tank and a 50-litre LPG tank. With both tanks filled, the combined WLTP-certified range stands at around 1,500 km, setting a new benchmark for compact-to-midsize SUVs in this category.

For long-distance travelers, this means fewer refueling stops and much less stress about range anxiety. LPG, when available, also provides a significant cost advantage, with running costs up to 30% lower compared to petrol-only models.

Cabin & Styling Enhancements

To go with the new powertrain, Dacia has introduced subtle but meaningful updates inside and out:

  • Refreshed upholstery for a more premium look.
  • Driver's seat lumbar adjustment for added comfort on long journeys.
  • Black alloy wheels available on the Extreme trim for a sportier presence.

These updates align with Dacia's strategy of offering rugged yet comfortable SUVs for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

What's Coming by 2026

Dacia has big plans for the Duster range. By 2026, the line-up will be fully restructured with new engine options based on the modern 1.2-litre turbo 3-cylinder unit. The upcoming portfolio will include:

  • Eco-G 120 (petrol + LPG bi-fuel)
  • Mild-hybrid 140
  • Hybrid 155

As these arrive, older versions like the Eco-G 100, mild-hybrid 130, and hybrid 140 will be phased out. This not only standardises the lineup but also makes way for more efficient and higher-performing options.

DriveSpark Thinks

The new Hybrid-G 150 4×4 variants of the Duster and Bigster show how Dacia (and Renault) are positioning their SUVs as budget-friendly yet technologically advanced alternatives to mainstream rivals. With EV-like urban efficiency, genuine 4×4 capability, long range, and reduced operating costs, they appeal to a wide audience.

That said, expect Renault to offer variants without the flexibility of LPG in India. Moreover, we also expect the Hybrid version to be offered only in the top-spec trim.
