Toll Hack: Here's How You Can 'Reduce' Toll Charges Using NHAI App

Starting July 2025, motorists will have access to a new feature on the Rajmargyatra mobile app by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). This app will guide users on the highway route with the lowest toll charges between two destinations. It also offers detailed information about national highways and includes a grievance redressal system.

The Chief Product Officer of Intelligent Transportation System at Indian Highways Management Company, Amrit Singha, explained how the app functions. For instance, if someone is travelling from Delhi to Lucknow, the app will suggest routes like Yamuna Expressway or via Ghaziabad-Aligarh-Kanpur-Lucknow. It will highlight which path incurs the least toll.

Highway Violations and New Developments

Singha also highlighted issues with two-wheelers and three-wheelers entering restricted areas like Delhi-Gurgaon and Dwarka Expressway. According to NHAI's Advanced Traffic Management System data, from June 21 to June 23, there were 1.73 lakh violations recorded, with over one lakh involving banned vehicles.

NHAI is set to open a new 67-km spur connecting Bandikui to Jaipur via the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. This development aims to reduce travel time between these locations significantly. The four-lane access-controlled stretch was built at ₹1,368 crore and is expected to be ready for traffic trials by mid-July this year.

Impact on Travel Times

Currently, travelling from Delhi to Jaipur takes about four hours. With the new spur in place, this journey could be reduced to approximately three hours. The drive from Delhi to Bandikui via the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway takes around 2.5 hours, with an additional 1.5 hours needed for the last 67 km.

NHAI Rajasthan regional officer Pradeep Atri mentioned that this road was constructed over approximately 2.5 years. It is anticipated that it will divert a significant portion of traffic away from the old Delhi-Jaipur highway once operational.

DriveSpark Thinks

The Rajmargyatra app's introduction aligns with broader efforts in India's transportation sector to enhance efficiency and convenience for commuters while addressing existing challenges like unauthorized vehicle entries on expressways.
