Record High SUV & MPV Exports With Strong FY2025 Performance: This Automaker Dominates...
In FY2025, the export of SUVs and MPVs from India reached a record high. A total of 3,62,160 units were shipped overseas, reflecting a 54% increase compared to FY2023's 2,34,720 units. Maruti Suzuki led the charge with four models among the top ten exported vehicles. The Fronx compact crossover emerged as the most exported model.
Maruti Suzuki maintained its position as India's leading exporter for the fourth consecutive fiscal year. The company exported 3,30,081 passenger vehicles in FY2025. This was bolstered by doubling its SUV and MPV exports to 1,57,000 units from 77,927 units in FY2024. The Fronx and Jimny models saw strong demand in Japan.
Top Exporting Carmakers
Honda Cars India secured second place in SUV exports with 45,167 units out of a total of 60,229 vehicles shipped. Nissan followed closely with 29,155 units of the Magnite model. These figures highlight significant growth for both companies in the export market.

SUV & MPV Export Highlights
The Maruti Fronx topped the export charts with 69,133 units shipped abroad. This represented a remarkable 364% increase from FY2024's 14,887 units. Demand from Japan significantly contributed to this surge. The Fronx is sold there with a mild-hybrid petrol engine and all-wheel drive.
The Jimny also saw impressive growth despite domestic challenges. It recorded a 116% rise in exports with 47,982 units compared to FY2024's 22,191 units. Since November 2020, Maruti Suzuki has been producing the three-door Jimny for export markets like Africa and the Middle East.
Nissan Magnite and Other Models
Nissan's Magnite achieved solid growth with exports reaching 29,155 units—a substantial increase of 213% over FY2024's figures. Meanwhile, Toyota's Urban Cruiser Hyryder ranked fifth among exported models with a notable 59% year-on-year growth.
The Honda Elevate climbed seven ranks to become the third most-exported SUV in FY2025 with 45,167 units—a significant jump from its tenth-place position in FY2024. It was particularly popular in Japan where it is marketed as the WR-V.
Kia Sonet and Hyundai Alcazar Performance
Kia Sonet experienced a sharp decline in exports by 55%, dropping to ninth place with only 13,762 units shipped overseas compared to FY2024's top spot performance. Hyundai Alcazar also saw a slight decrease of 16%, securing the tenth position among exported models.
This list of top ten exported SUVs and MPVs includes four compact SUVs and four midsize SUVs alongside one MPV and one three-row SUV model. Maruti Suzuki dominated this list with four models while other brands like Honda and Nissan each had one model featured.
