Race For RP Collaborates With McLaren Trophy America To Raise Awareness For Relapsing Polychondritis

Race for RP, a leading charity focused on autoimmune diseases, has partnered with McLaren Trophy America for its inaugural season. This collaboration aims to increase awareness and funding for Relapsing Polychondritis (RP), a rare autoimmune disorder. The charity's branding will be visible on all race cars starting from the season's first event at Sonoma Raceway in California.

The McLaren Trophy America series is expanding into the United States in 2025, and Race for RP is now an official partner. The partnership will ensure that Race for RP's branding appears on all competing cars from the season opener in Sonoma. Additionally, the organisation will have a presence in the paddock and conduct promotional activities, including a charity auction to support crucial research.

Race for RP is dedicated to raising awareness and advancing research for RP and other autoimmune diseases through motorsports. Unlike traditional sponsorship models, Race for RP ambassadors volunteer their platforms to promote awareness without receiving sponsorship funds. This initiative supports education, medical research, and amplifies awareness of RP and related conditions.

In 2018, the Relapsing Polychondritis Foundation expanded its focus to include research on RP and related autoimmune diseases. It began leveraging motorsports partnerships to drive research efforts. Since then, these initiatives have yielded significant results in raising awareness and supporting research advancements.

A prominent figure in this movement is Neil Langberg, known as "Neilio" in racing circles. He has a long-standing relationship with McLaren, having competed in both the Pure McLaren series and McLaren Trophy Europe. The 2025 McLaren Trophy America season begins at Sonoma Raceway from March 28–30, marking the first of five race weekends.

Each event will feature two 50-minute races as part of the SRO-run GT World Challenge America package. With expected crowds in the tens of thousands and full live streaming on YouTube, this partnership provides an excellent platform to amplify Race for RP’s mission.

Expanding Impact Through Collaboration

Nancy Linn, Chair of RP, expressed excitement about partnering with McLaren: "Race for RP is excited to partner with McLaren and the Trophy America Series as their chosen charity. Our mission to raise awareness and accelerate research for relapsing polychondritis (RP) and other autoimmune diseases makes this collaboration an ideal fit."

David Bammert, President of the RP Foundation and Race for RP, highlighted their achievements: "The Race for RP's motorsports awareness campaign continues to support the RP Foundation’s mission to advance RP education and transformative research." Initiatives like establishing the Penn RP Center provide patients with access to specialized care teams.

A Platform for Hope

The partnership between Race for RP and McLaren offers a unique opportunity to further amplify their message of hope for those affected by autoimmune diseases. Ian James, Director of Motorsport at McLaren Automotive stated: "We are very pleased to welcome Race for RP to the McLaren Trophy America paddock."

The collaboration aims not only to raise awareness but also to connect with a loyal group of supporters who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of those affected by these diseases.

This partnership underscores both organisations' commitment to using motorsports as a platform to drive positive change while supporting vital research efforts that could lead to breakthroughs in understanding autoimmune disorders like Relapsing Polychondritis.
