2025 Formula Drift PROSPEC Championship: Jerry Johnson Wins New Jersey Seeding Bracket Amid Storm Disruptions

Jerry Johnson secured his first win in the PROSPEC Seeding Bracket at the Formula DRIFT event. The competition took place at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. However, a severe storm disrupted the event, leading to the postponement of the FD PRO Qualifying until Friday due to significant damage caused by high winds.

The unexpected storm caused chaos shortly after the PROSPEC Seeding Bracket concluded. The high winds resulted in a tree falling on Jeff Jones' PRO competition car and damaged various paddock areas. This led Formula DRIFT to delay the PRO Championship Seeding Bracket to ensure safety for all participants and allow time for recovery.

The revised schedule for Friday includes a public opening from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The day will start with a PRO Warm Up for seeding drivers only, followed by the PRO SEEDING BRACKET from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Livestreams will be available throughout the day at www.formulad.com/live.

In the Link ECU PROSPEC Seeding Bracket Qualification, Jerry Johnson emerged victorious despite facing challenges. He was knocked off track in the Top 4 but persevered through confusion and collisions in the final against Brian Hoplamazian's S13. Johnson's determination saw him complete both runs successfully, securing his win.

Hoplamazian reached the final after two One More Time (OMT) battles but ultimately lost to Johnson. Jayce Habich finished third after losing a close OMT battle with Hoplamazian in the Top 4. Each heat win earns drivers three Championship points, with Johnson accumulating 12 points from his four victories.

Incidents and Eliminations

Chellee Hansen faced an unfortunate incident when her Nissan S13 rolled onto its side following a collision with Carsen Ruger during the Top 16 heats. Ruger's attempt to regain proximity led to contact that pushed Hansen's car off track, causing it to tip over. Both drivers couldn't repair their cars in time, resulting in Ruger's elimination while Hansen qualified but couldn't advance further.

Other eliminations included Sam Maghmoumi from Lebanon and Kasey Kohl from the USA, who failed to win their Top 16 Seeding heats due to low rankings. All teams in the Link ECU PROSPEC Championship must use Link engine management systems and GT Radial tires.
