Porsche Cayenne Electric Sets New Performance Standards With Impressive Usability Features

Porsche's Cayenne Electric prototype has set a new record for SUVs at the historic Shelsley Walsh hill climb. This achievement highlights the vehicle's impressive performance capabilities. The Cayenne Electric, which will join Porsche's existing lineup of hybrid and combustion engine models, is undergoing extensive global testing. It aims to combine high performance with everyday usability, long-distance comfort, and off-road capability.

The Cayenne Electric was showcased in England during a film production, where it demonstrated its potential by setting a record time of 31.28 seconds on the challenging course. Gabriela Jílková, a development driver for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, drove the prototype. "The course is challenging and does not forgive mistakes," she noted. "There are no run-off zones and little room for correction."

Porsche Active Ride technology played a crucial role in this achievement. The active suspension system maintains stability during dynamic driving conditions, ensuring precise handling. Michael Schätzle, Vice President of the Product Line Cayenne, stated that this technology significantly enhances both driving dynamics and ride comfort in the new Cayenne.

In addition to its performance prowess, the Cayenne Electric also excels in practicality. During a film shoot with British TV presenter Richard Hammond, the prototype effortlessly towed a classic car weighing over two tons from Hereford to his garage. Despite towing around three tons in total weight with the trailer, Hammond remarked that "the Cayenne handled it effortlessly."

The Cayenne Electric is designed to offer a towing capacity of up to 7,716 lbs., matching that of its combustion-engine counterpart. Schätzle emphasized that Porsche did not compromise on utility value while developing this all-electric model. The company plans another public appearance for the record-breaking SUV at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2025.

Porsche continues to invest heavily in developing both combustion engine and hybrid models alongside electrification efforts. Schätzle explained that while these models will remain available well into the next decade, electrification allows Porsche to achieve unprecedented performance levels without sacrificing practicality.

The Cayenne Electric's remarkable acceleration was evident at Shelsley Walsh when it passed the first measuring point just 1.94 seconds after starting—an achievement typically reserved for single-seater racing cars with specialized tires.

Porsche Cars North America (PCNA), established in 1984 as the exclusive U.S. importer of various Porsche models including the Cayenne, supports over 200 independently owned dealerships across America. PCNA is headquartered in Atlanta and operates two Porsche Experience Centers offering driving tracks and business facilities.

With its rich motorsport heritage boasting over 30,000 wins globally, Porsche remains committed to advancing vehicle performance through innovation like electrification while maintaining customer satisfaction through exceptional service experiences provided by its network of dealerships.
