Porsche Carrera Cup North America: Five Different Winners At Montreal Races
The Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve featured two Porsche Carrera Cup North America races on June 14-15. Five different class winners emerged from these events. Ryan Yardley from New Zealand and Riley Dickinson from Texas shared victories in the Pro-class, while James Sofronas and JP Martinez triumphed in the Pro-Am class. Scott Blind dominated the Masters class, winning both races.
Race 1 on June 14 saw Ryan Yardley secure his first win of the season. Starting from pole position, he held off Riley Dickinson to finish 1.684 seconds ahead. This victory marked Yardley's fourth career win. Dickinson set the fastest lap on lap 18, maintaining his position alongside Yardley throughout the race.
In the Pro-Am category, James Sofronas clinched victory after a close battle with JP Martinez and Patrick Mulcahy. Sofronas regained his lead to win on Saturday. Meanwhile, Scott Blind continued his dominance in the Masters class by winning both races over the weekend.
Sunday's Race 2 mirrored Saturday's event with no cautions throughout its duration. Riley Dickinson reversed roles with Yardley, overtaking him on lap three to claim his third win of the season. Dickinson finished 3.264 seconds ahead of Yardley, also earning a bonus point for the fastest lap.
Zachary Vanier achieved consecutive podium finishes at his home Grand Prix. Starting fifth in both races, Vanier advanced through the field to secure third place each day. His performance delighted local fans as he stood on the Formula 1 rostrum twice during this event.
The Pro-Am field experienced a shakeup on Sunday when Patrick Mulcahy started ahead of Saturday's winner James Sofronas and points leader JP Martinez. Martinez managed to overtake both rivals early in the race and narrowly defeated Mulcahy by just 0.074 seconds at the finish line.
Porsche Mobil 1 Female Driver Program Progress
The Porsche Mobil 1 Female Driver Program participants showed improvement in Montreal. Sabré Cook and Madeline Stewart achieved their best results of the season, finishing ninth and fourteenth respectively on Saturday. Ashley Freiberg recovered from an early incident to finish eleventh on Sunday.
Aaron Jeansonne faced challenges during qualifying but made an impressive comeback in Race 1 by advancing from last place to sixth position. His strong performance allowed him to start Sunday's race from tenth place, where he ultimately finished seventh.
