Porsche Carrera Cup North America Miami Round Features Diverse Class Winners And Key Highlights
The 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup North America held its second round at the Miami International Autodrome on May 3-4. Yves Baltas from New York dominated both races, leading the 28-car field of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) vehicles. The event saw five different class winners, with James Sofronas and Angel Benitez taking Pro-Am victories, while Todd Parriott and Scott Blind shared wins in the Masters class.
Saturday's race was filled with action from the start. Yves Baltas secured a 6.398-second victory despite numerous incidents on track. A full course caution was called after an early collision ended Scott Blind's race. Jimmy Llibre initially led but lost his position after running wide, allowing Baltas to take control and eventually win.
James Sofronas made history by becoming the first driver to win a class at all three Formula One support events in North America. He added a Pro-Am win in Miami to his previous victories in Montreal and Austin. Todd Parriott claimed the Masters class win after Blind's early exit from Saturday's race.
Sunday's race ran smoothly without any cautions, yet Yves Baltas again emerged victorious. Although Jimmy Llibre crossed the finish line first, he received a 10-second penalty for exceeding track limits, promoting Baltas to first place. This victory marked Baltas' third career win and moved him up in the season standings.
Ryan Yardley and Zachary Vanier engaged in an intense battle for second place on Sunday, swapping positions multiple times. Yardley's Topp Racing Porsche ultimately secured second place, with Vanier finishing third. Aaron Jeansonne and Riley Dickinson completed the top five positions.
Angel Benitez turned the tables on Saturday's Pro-Am winner James Sofronas by winning on Sunday. Scott Blind recovered from his Saturday mishap to secure a Masters class victory on Sunday.
Entrant Standings Update
Topp Racing advanced to the top of the Entrant Standings despite not securing a win yet this season. Ryan Yardley's consistent performance with three runner-up finishes contributed significantly to their points tally, as did Tyler Maxson's second-place finish on Saturday.
The weekend was particularly special for Yves Baltas as he was recently announced as part of Porsche Motorsport North America's EBOOST Junior Driver Program. Fellow program members Tyler Maxson and Zachary Vanier also joined him on the podium throughout the weekend.
