Porsche Unveils New 911 Cup Race Car For The Upcoming 2026 Season
The Porsche 911 Cup, a refined one-make race car based on the 992.2 generation, is set to debut this summer. Development began in January 2024, with production slated for fall 2025 at the Zuffenhausen plant. This new model will participate in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and selected Carrera Cup series, including North America, starting in the 2026 season.
Since its inception in 1990, the Porsche 911 has been integral to the brand's one-make cup racing series. Initially launched with the German Porsche Carrera Cup, it expanded to include the Porsche Supercup alongside select Formula 1 Grand Prix races. Today, Carrera Cup events occur globally, spanning over twelve countries from Asia to Europe and beyond.
With over 5,381 units produced, the 911-based one-make cup cars are among the most manufactured racing vehicles worldwide. These cars are built alongside standard 911 models at Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. The current model alone has seen production of 1,130 units since its debut in the 2021 season.
The development of the new competition vehicle took place at Porsche Motorsport in Weissach. The focus was on enhancing aerodynamics and drivability while improving electronics, brakes, transmission, and engine handling. "We are already operating at a very high-performance level with the current GT3 Cup," said Jan Feldmann, Project Manager for GT racing cars at Porsche Motorsport.
Real-world testing occurred on tracks like Monza and Lausitzring. Former Porsche Juniors Bastian Buus and Klaus Bachler participated in these tests. Laurin Heinrich and Marco Seefried also contributed their expertise during prototype evaluations.
The test program exclusively used an eFuel blend from Porsche Supercup. This blend meets FIA Appendix J requirements for renewable fuel and achieves a CO2 reduction of 66% compared to fossil fuels. The blend includes renewable synthetic gasoline (MtG) and ethanol to enhance performance.
Sustainable Production Efforts
HIF produces this raw fuel at its Haru Oni pilot plant in Chile using renewable wind energy to minimize CO2 emissions. Transport emissions are offset by CO2 certificates from South American renewable energy plants. HIF aims to source CO2 from direct air capturing plants in future developments.
