Petersen Automotive Museum And Willow Springs Raceway Join Forces To Celebrate Racing Heritage
The Petersen Automotive Museum is collaborating with Willow Springs International Raceway to enhance the track's cultural significance. This partnership aims to integrate the museum's expertise with the historic Southern California venue. The Petersen Pavilion, an extension of the museum, will be established at Willow Springs to enrich visitors' experiences.
Willow Springs was acquired in April by CrossHarbor Capital Partners and Singer Vehicle Design. Their goal is to preserve its historical value while investing in its future as a top destination for car and motorsport fans. "The Petersen has helped set the bar for automotive museums around the world, and it is the perfect partner to help us engage with the vibrant history and future of automotive culture," said Sam Byrne, co-founder of CrossHarbor Capital Partners.
The new ownership group plans to maintain public access at Willow Springs, continuing to host both public and private events. The Petersen Automotive Museum joins other industry experts in upgrading the track experience. Former Formula 1 driver Alex Wurz will work on improving track design and safety, while Sonoma Raceway will manage track operations.
"As one of the most iconic racetracks in America, Willow Springs is an ideal place to celebrate the passion, heritage and innovation that define the automotive world," said Terry L. Karges, executive director of the Petersen Automotive Museum. The museum aims to create an engaging environment for enthusiasts through storytelling and curation.
The timeline for constructing new facilities at Willow Springs will be announced later. The collaboration between Petersen Automotive Museum and Willow Springs promises a unique blend of history and modernity for visitors.
