Audi Unveils New A6 Plug-In Hybrid Models With Enhanced Performance And Efficiency
Audi has introduced the new e-hybrid quattro versions of the A6 Saloon and Avant, boasting a combined power output of 299PS (220kW) and an electric range of up to 64 miles. These models feature enhanced efficiency and performance due to a high-capacity battery, smart recuperation strategy, and intelligent hybrid management. UK sales will start in early June, with deliveries expected by late summer.
The A6 e-hybrid quattro models are equipped with a 2.0 TFSI engine producing 185 kW (252 PS) alongside an electric motor offering up to 105 kW. The combined system output reaches 220 kW (299PS) and 450 Nm of torque. This allows the vehicles to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in six seconds and achieve a top speed of 155mph under optimal conditions.
The heart of these plug-in hybrids is their high-voltage battery, which now has a capacity of 25.9 kWh (net 20.7 kWh), marking a significant increase of about 45 percent over previous models. This improvement enables the Saloon to travel up to 64 miles on electric power alone, while the Avant can cover up to 63 miles. Maximum AC charging power is now at 11 kW, allowing a full recharge in just 2.5 hours if the battery is empty.
Regenerative braking performance has been significantly improved in these models. The intensity of recuperation during electric driving mode can be adjusted across three levels using steering wheel paddles. The vehicle automatically recovers energy when this function is activated, based on route data stored in its navigation system.
The new A6 e-hybrid quattro models come standard with all-wheel steering and quattro ultra drive, enhancing agility in city traffic and tight corners by turning rear wheels opposite to front ones at speeds up to 37mph. At higher speeds, rear wheels turn in the same direction for precise handling and comfort.
Improved aerodynamics contribute to a refined driving experience in these models. Noise suppression inside the cabin has been enhanced by up to 30 percent compared to previous versions through better-sealed windows and optimised door seals.
Intelligent Hybrid Management
The hybrid management system automatically selects the best operating strategy for efficiency, flexibility, and comfort. Two modes are available: "EV" for electric-only driving and "hybrid" for maintaining specific charge levels for later use. In EV mode, speed is capped at 87mph unless certain conditions require combustion engine activation.
A digital slider allows precise adjustment of desired charge levels before trips, ensuring enough energy for electric driving at destinations without charging options. The system prioritises electric driving in urban areas while increasing hybrid mode usage at higher speeds.
