Perfection In Bugatti Bolide: Understanding The Final Shakedown Process For Quality Assurance
Every Bugatti Bolide, crafted in Molsheim, undergoes a rigorous quality control process. This track-only vehicle, despite its raw power, is subjected to an intensive final inspection and circuit testing program before reaching its owners. The Bolide embodies Bugatti's DNA with its race-winning heritage and the iconic W16 engine. It boasts 1,600 horsepower and a lightweight carbon fibre chassis, making it an unparalleled track machine.
The meticulous shakedown process for each Bolide ensures the same dedication to perfection as seen in other Bugatti models. This process is conducted at Circuit de Mirecourt, a 3,750-meter track in the Vosges department. The partnership with this circuit provides Bugatti with exclusive access to test the performance of every Bolide under ideal conditions close to Molsheim.
Bugatti's quality control involves two distinct phases: precision and extremes. The first phase focuses on establishing a solid foundation for the vehicle. It begins with familiarization and steering validation at moderate speeds. Progressive braking tests start at 50 km/h and increase to 250 km/h to gently break in the braking system.
The second phase pushes the car's capabilities close to their limits while maintaining safety protocols. Intensive laps allow gradual temperature increases for tires, brakes, and gearbox. Stability and safety systems are thoroughly evaluated, including ABS and traction control functionality.
A dedicated team of eight specialists conducts each shakedown session. This team includes two quality control drivers, a tire manager, a cooling manager, two mechanics, and two electricians. They work together to validate two cars in a single day on track by assessing every dynamic characteristic.
Advanced telemetry derived from motorsport combines with expert human evaluation during testing. Specialized software analyzes real-time data to detect anomalies. Drivers trained in Bugatti's precise specifications provide invaluable feedback on performance and handling characteristics.
Commitment to Perfection
"Our relationship with Circuit de Mirecourt has been invaluable in ensuring that every Bolide meets our exacting standards," said Philippe Grand, Director of Quality at Bugatti. "Their commitment to providing us with consistent track access has allowed our team to develop a rigorous approach to quality control for such an extreme car."
The rigorous testing process will continue as more customers worldwide receive their Bolides. These vehicles will be enjoyed on-track at events like 'Feeling the Track,' which began at Circuit Paul Ricard in February and will continue at Circuit of the Americas in May.
Bugattiās commitment ensures that each Bolide delivers extraordinary performance consistently and safely when owned. The brand focuses on enduring quality rather than cost considerations, ensuring reliability akin to any other product from Molsheim.
