Passenger Vehicle Sales Decline By 6.38% In June - Maruti Still Rules

The Indian passenger vehicle market experienced a decline in June 2025, with total sales reaching 3,17,757 units. This marked a 6.38% decrease compared to the 3,39,418 units sold in June 2024.

Maruti Suzuki maintained its leading position by selling 1,18,906 units in June 2025. However, this was a significant drop of 13.31% from the previous year's figure of 1,37,160 units.

Mahindra showed strong growth with sales of 47,306 units in June 2025. This represented an impressive year-on-year increase of 18.20% over the previous year's sales of 40,022 units. Hyundai's performance was less favourable as it sold 44,024 units, reflecting a decline of 12.13% from the same month last year, when it sold 50,103 units.

Tata Motors also faced a downturn, with sales dropping to 37,083 units in June 2025. This was a decrease of 14.80% compared to the previous year's sales of 43,527 units. Toyota managed to buck the trend by recording positive growth; it sold 26,453 units in June 2025, up by 2.72% from the previous year's figure of 25,752 units.

Kia India reported sales of 20,625 units in June 2025. This was a slight decline of 3.17% compared to the previous year's sales of 21,300 units. MG Motor saw significant gains, with sales increasing by 25.52%, reaching a total of 5,829 units compared to last year's figure of 4,644 units.

Skoda achieved remarkable growth, with sales almost doubling to reach 5,014 units in June 2025. This represented a substantial increase of 95.40% over the previous year's sales of just 2,566 units. Honda Cars India experienced a slight dip in sales, with figures reaching only 4,618 units in June this year compared to last year's total of 4,804 units.

Volkswagen's performance also declined slightly, with sales falling by 5.25%, resulting in only 3,089 vehicles sold this year compared to 3,260 last year during June alone. Renault continued facing challenges, as its numbers dropped sharply by 26%, down from 3,553 cars sold within the same timeframe 12 months ago.

Nissan's situation worsened further, with their overall output shrinking significantly by 37.68%, leaving them at just 1,313 cars moved off lots versus 2,107 previously recorded last summer. Citroen, however, enjoyed a sharp rise of 79.94%, selling 610 vehicles against 339 during the earlier period.

Jeep India reported slightly lower numbers, with 262 vehicles sold during June 2025 compared to 281 previously recorded during the same timeframe one year prior, marking a decrease of 6.76% overall. The passenger vehicle segment registered a month-on-month decline of 9.14% when comparing May's total of 3,49,713 units to the current period results.
