Oliver Rowland Delivers Late Surge To Win The 2025 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix

Oliver Rowland of the Nissan Formula E Team showcased an impressive performance at the 2025 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix. In a thrilling late-race move, he overtook three former World Champions—Jake Dennis, Pascal Wehrlein, and António Félix da Costa—within half a lap to claim victory. This win marked the end of Porsche's four-season dominance in Mexico City.

The race took place at the iconic Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit, with over 40,000 fans in attendance. Despite starting fourth, Rowland strategically used ATTACK MODE and precise overtaking to reach the top. A Safety Car interruption did not deter him; he capitalised on his final 50kW boost to surpass the leading trio in less than one lap.

Pascal Wehrlein had earlier secured pole position for Porsche but was outpaced during the race. His teammate, António Félix da Costa, finished second ahead of Wehrlein in third place. Da Costa now leads the Drivers' Championship with 37 points, while Rowland follows with 25 points.

The event attracted global and local celebrities, adding glamour to the championship. Lucien Laviscount from "Emily in Paris" joined the Andretti team for a guided tour and waved the checkered flag. Model and activist Jordan Rand cheered from the VIP area, while Antonio Pérez presented da Costa with his trophy.

In addition to racing action, attendees enjoyed performances by Piso 21 and DJ Flor Capistrán. The sold-out crowd experienced an electrifying atmosphere throughout the event.

Sustainability Initiatives

Formula E promoted sustainability through various initiatives at the E-Prix. FIA Girls on Track hosted workshops for 120 girls, focusing on empowerment and education. Additionally, Formula E supported El Caracol AC with a €25,000 donation to aid under-served communities in Mexico City.

The championship also announced a partnership with Google Cloud as its Official Cloud Technology Services Partner. This collaboration aims to redefine motorsport through advanced AI and technology solutions.

As Formula E heads to Jeddah for its first double-header next month, Porsche leads the Manufacturers' Championship by four points over Nissan. The upcoming races promise more excitement as teams compete under lights in Saudi Arabia.

António Félix da Costa expressed gratitude for fan support: "This is insane – we had the best fans of the whole season, thank you! I’m happy with two podiums in a row." Meanwhile, Oliver Rowland reflected on his strategy: "When I took ATTACK MODE...I just went for it!"

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship continues to bring thrilling racing experiences while promoting sustainability across iconic cities worldwide.
