No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3 Rallies From Last To Fourth Place Finish At Detroit Sports Car Classic
The No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3, driven by Jack Hawksworth and Aaron Telitz, achieved a fourth-place finish in the GTD PRO class at the Detroit Sports Car Classic. Starting from the back due to a penalty, they managed to climb up the ranks. Meanwhile, Parker Thompson and Frankie Montcalvo secured ninth place with their No. 15 Lexus, showcasing resilience throughout the race.
Hawksworth initially qualified third but had to start from the back after a post-qualifying penalty. Despite this setback, he quickly gained two positions at the start of the race. However, contact with another car led to a drive-through penalty. The team persevered, with Hawksworth driving until 40 minutes remained before handing over to Telitz.
Telitz emerged from the pits in third place but faced another drive-through penalty due to crew members crossing the wall prematurely. A timely caution helped lessen its impact, allowing Telitz to recover and finish fourth. This result keeps Lexus seventh in the GTD PRO manufacturer standings as they prepare for their next race at Watkins Glen International on June 22.
Parker Thompson and Frankie Montcalvo made a rare appearance in the renumbered No. 15 Lexus entry for this event. Montcalvo began from tenth position and completed a short initial stint before Thompson took over. Employing a fuel-saving strategy, they finished ninth despite needing an early yellow flag for their strategy to work effectively.
Aaron Telitz expressed satisfaction with their performance: "What an eventful day. There were plenty of ups and downs, but to still end up fourth in the end shows a really great effort by the whole team to stay focused all the way through to the checkered flag." He praised Hawksworth's early driving and looked forward to building momentum for future races.
