No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 Achieves Third Place Finish In IMSA Sprint Race At CTMP
Jack Hawksworth and Parker Thompson turned a pole position start into a podium finish during the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship sprint race at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. They secured third place for the No. 12 Lexus RC F GT3 in the GTD category. Meanwhile, Ben Barnicoat and Aaron Telitz finished eighth with their No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3 in the GTD PRO class.
Hawksworth started strong, leading the initial 36 laps of the race. However, a mid-race caution led to pitstops, where Thompson faced congestion on pit lane. Despite this setback, Thompson and the team managed to stay competitive, ultimately finishing third after a late-race incident caused an extended caution period.
The No. 12 team's third-place finish marked their fourth podium of the season, maintaining their second position in both driver and team points standings, trailing by 93 points. The Vasser Sullivan team employed effective strategies to keep them in contention despite challenges during the race.
Telitz began the race for the No. 14 team from second position in GTD PRO. After pitting with just under two hours left, Barnicoat took over and briefly led before being caught up in pit road traffic due to a mid-race caution. Despite efforts to regain positions, they concluded in eighth place.
"Hard-fought third-place finish today," said Jack Hawksworth about his performance with the No. 12 team. "The guys made some good calls to get us some positions back as well." Parker Thompson added, "Unfortunate end, but with a big-picture mindset, this is a day we needed."
Reflecting on his race experience, Ben Barnicoat expressed frustration: "Frustrating way to leave what was such a positive weekend to start." He praised his team for their efforts despite not securing another win that day.
Looking Ahead
Aaron Telitz shared his thoughts on the weekend: "We’ve had such a fast Lexus RC F GT3 the last three weekends." He remains optimistic about future races, highlighting their momentum going into Road America.
The Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3s are set to compete again at Road America on August 3rd. The teams aim to build on their current performances and continue competing strongly throughout the season.
