Nissan Sunderland Plant Team Volunteers Over 3000 Hours To Support Local Community Initiatives
The Nissan Sunderland Plant team, renowned for their expertise in manufacturing and supply chain management, has dedicated over 3,000 hours to community volunteering in the past year. This initiative allows each team member to volunteer for two days annually. They have supported more than 100 charities, schools, and community centres by engaging in activities like painting, gardening, and building play areas.
Michael Jude, HR Director at Nissan Sunderland Plant, expressed pride in the team's diverse skills being used for good causes. He stated, "We’re hugely proud of the wide range of technical skills among our team of 6,000, and that feeling of pride is amplified massively when you see those skills supporting such good causes." The programme not only benefits the community but also enriches employees' experiences.
The volunteering programme is driven by employees who nominate charities they wish to support. Looking ahead, Nissan plans to collaborate with RedSTART to provide financial education to school-aged children. Financial experts from Nissan will teach basic money management skills to young people as part of this partnership.
Among the supported charities last year was 4LOUIS, which aids grieving parents. Victoria Usher from 4LOUIS highlighted the importance of Nissan's support: "Nissan has been supporting 4LOUIS since we were nominated by an employee. Their support is vital in helping us maintain the service we offer for grieving parents."
Nissan's volunteering aligns with its EV36Zero vision for creating a renewable-powered EV manufacturing hub. The initiative supports sustainability and social impact goals under Nissan's global Ambition 2030 strategy. This strategy aims for carbon neutrality across product life cycles by fiscal year 2050.
Ellie Alderson from Engineering and Claire Wright from Finance are key figures behind the volunteering scheme. They work closely with charities to understand their needs and how Nissan can assist them effectively.
