Nissan Planning To Launch New SUV & MPV In India: Launch Details Here
Nissan India's Managing Director, Saurabh Vatsa, has announced that the initial phases of production for two anticipated models, a B-MPV and a C-SUV, have already commenced at Renault's manufacturing facility in Chennai. This move reaffirms Nissan's commitment to expanding its product lineup in India.
In light of these developments, Vatsa elaborated on the future launches Nissan is preparing for. He confirmed that the MPV, which draws inspiration from the Renault Triber, is set to launch in the early months of next year. Following closely, the SUV, which will be Nissan's interpretation of the forthcoming Duster, is expected to hit the market by mid-next year. Additionally, Vatsa revealed plans for a new 7-seater SUV set for a 2027 release, emphasizing its design as not merely an extension but a fully-realized 7-seater vehicle.

Nissan's strategy goes beyond just the introduction of new models. Vatsa pointed out that the company plans to sustain its investment in the Magnite, noting its success as an export to over 65 countries in both right-hand and left-hand drive versions. Starting this April, the engines powering the Magnite have been made E20 fuel compliant, showcasing Nissan's effort to continuously enhance its existing models. Despite the recent lukewarm reception to the X-Trail CBU, Vatsa mentioned that Nissan is considering launching multiple CBUs, indicating a diverse approach to its Indian product portfolio.
In the realm of powertrain strategies, Nissan is exploring various options. Vatsa stated that while diesel engines are not in the immediate pipeline, the company is investigating alternatives including hybrids, electric vehicles (EVs), and CNG models. This diversification strategy aligns with the upcoming Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) norms set for 2027, showcasing Nissan's forward-thinking approach in adapting to regulatory changes and market demands.
Nissan's commitment to India is further underscored by its 700 million euro investment aimed at new product development and enhancing production capabilities. With Renault now fully overseeing their joint manufacturing venture in India, Nissan aims to boost its production to 100,000 vehicles annually, catering to both domestic and international markets. This ambition reflects Nissan's determination to strengthen its presence in India and bolster its global footprint through strategic exports.
Despite divestment from its manufacturing alliance with Renault, Nissan maintains a positive outlook on its operational dynamics. Vatsa reassured that the partnership with Renault remains strong, negating any potential supply issues that may arise from the new arrangement. This confidence is rooted in the mutual benefits both companies derive from their collaboration, ensuring the viability of their manufacturing operations in India.
Looking ahead, Nissan's focus is on launching three products shared with Renault, addressing the need for innovative and competitive offerings in the Indian market. However, the company acknowledges the challenges faced by its dealers, with Vatsa admitting the loss of some dealerships. Despite these hurdles, Nissan has a robust plan to enhance dealer viability and expand its network, indicating a comprehensive approach to securing its future in India.
