Nissan Magnite CNG Could Be Launched Sooner Than Expected: All Details Here

Renault India has recently introduced Government-approved CNG kits for its models, including the Kwid, Triber, and Kiger. These retrofit kits are available in phases, starting at Rs 75,000. Meanwhile, Nissan is preparing to launch a CNG variant of the Magnite soon. Currently, the Magnite is Nissan India's sole offering in the market.

Nissan Magnite's Facelift & Sales

The Magnite recently underwent a facelift, enhancing its features and cabin quality with soft-touch materials. Despite these improvements, Nissan's sales have dipped by 16.03% year-on-year. In India, CNG variants are popular for boosting sales, with many manufacturers opting for this strategy.

Renault's retrofit kits come with a three-year warranty and promise no performance changes. They are compatible with the naturally aspirated 1.0L 3-cylinder engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It's likely that Nissan will adopt a similar approach for the Magnite CNG.

Testing & Expectations

Automotive enthusiast Vivek Mishra noted that Nissan is testing CNG kits for the Magnite in India. During a service centre visit, he observed official testing activities. This could indicate training sessions for vendor personnel similar to Renault's process, suggesting an imminent launch.

Speculation suggests that Nissan might use the same vendor as Renault for their retrofit kits. Pricing could align with Renault's offerings: Rs 79,500 for Triber and Kiger, while Kwid's kit costs Rs 75,000. Mileage details remain undisclosed by Renault; it's uncertain if Nissan will follow suit.

Potential Challenges

The new Magnite facelift doesn't seem to include additional features or equipment since it was recently updated. However, boot space may be compromised due to the CNG kit installation. Unlike Tata and Hyundai's dual-cylinder setups, this might not be an option here.

Tata Punch i-CNG and Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo are expected to be primary competitors alongside Renault's Kiger CNG model. These rivals offer factory-fitted kits compared to Renault's retrofit approach.

Renault's decision to offer retrofit kits aligns with Honda's strategy rather than Maruti Suzuki, Tata or Hyundai who provide factory-fitted options. This move aims at tapping into India's growing demand for cost-effective fuel alternatives without compromising vehicle performance or warranty coverage.

As both companies explore expanding their CNG offerings in India’s competitive market landscape through strategic partnerships like those between Renault-Nissan Alliance partners – customers can anticipate more choices catering towards eco-friendly driving solutions soon enough!
