Nissan Formula E Team Dominates Jeddah E-Prix With Win And Second Place Finish
Oliver Rowland of the Nissan Formula E Team secured a commanding win in Round 4 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. This victory followed his second-place finish the previous day. Starting from second position, Rowland executed a flawless Attack Mode strategy, allowing him to lead for most of the race. He eventually extended his lead to nearly six seconds, achieving a Nissan-powertrain 1-2 finish with Taylor Barnard from NEOM McLaren Formula E Team in second place.
Rowland's success in Jeddah has propelled him to the top of the Drivers' Championship with 68 points. His performances have also helped Nissan Formula E Team climb to first place in the Teams' standings. The team now holds a 47-point advantage in the Manufacturers' Championship, thanks to podium finishes by both Nissan and NEOM McLaren teams.
Norman Nato faced challenges during the race weekend. Starting from 10th on the grid, he initially gained positions but lost ground during the Attack Mode phase. In a competitive field, he couldn't conserve energy for a late push and finished 15th after 31 laps. Despite these setbacks, Nato acknowledged the car's competitiveness and expressed determination to improve in future races.
Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, expressed satisfaction with their second win of the season at such an important venue for Nissan and Electromin. Volpe noted that while Rowland excelled in qualifying and race strategy, Nato faced difficulties starting from midfield. The team aims to address areas for improvement before upcoming races.
Gabriele Minì participated in a rookie-only FP0 session earlier in the week. The Italian driver, set to compete in Formula 2 in 2025, previously raced for Nissan Formula E Team in Berlin last year. During his session at Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Minì set the second-fastest time while helping gather valuable data for the team.
Minì found it insightful to drive different power modes and appreciated contributing to the team's efforts. He expressed eagerness to drive again if given another opportunity and praised the team's performance over the weekend.
Nissan's Commitment to Electric Racing
Nissan entered all-electric racing during Season 5 (2018/19) of ABB FIA Formula E Championship as Japan's first manufacturer in this series. In Season 7 (2020/21), they committed long-term to GEN3 era racing until Season 12 (2025/26). In April 2022, Nissan acquired e.dams race team ownership fully integrating into ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
In June 2022, they announced supplying EV powertrain technology exclusively throughout GEN3 era for McLaren Racing.
