Nissan Formula E Team Aims For Strong Performance At Home Tokyo E-Prix In 2024

Nissan Formula E Team is gearing up for its home race in Tokyo, marking Rounds 8 and 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The event takes place near Nissan's global headquarters. Currently, Nissan leads the Manufacturers' Championship, with the team second in the Teams' Standings. This occasion is celebrated with a new video game, 'NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo', created with Japanese Illustrator Kentaro Yoshida.

Oliver Rowland, who leads the Drivers’ Standings, aims to continue his strong performance after securing a win and a second place in Monaco. He has fond memories of racing in Tokyo, having achieved pole position and second place during the championship's first visit in March 2024. Norman Nato also looks forward to performing well after finishing sixth last season.

The Tokyo Street Circuit, measuring 2.582 kilometers, awaits drivers with its challenging layout around the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre. The track features 18 turns and combines slow corners with three long straights. Overtaking opportunities are likely at Turns 1, 10, 15, and 17. The first race will include Pit Boost, where Nissan has previously excelled.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, expressed excitement about returning to Tokyo for a double-header. "After the success of the race in 2024, it’s very special for the whole team to be back in Tokyo and for a home double-header this time!" he said. The team aims to score points consistently throughout the season.

Rowland emphasised managing risks while maintaining competitiveness: "We’ve had a strong start to the season which has put us in the Drivers’ Championship lead, but I’m still managing it race by race." He enjoys the track's challenges and aims for top-five finishes to secure valuable points.

Norman Nato appreciates Tokyo's challenging street circuit: "Tokyo is a challenging street track with tight corners and chicanes, making it one of the most difficult to drive but also a fun circuit which I really enjoy." He hopes to achieve a podium finish this weekend.

Formula E's Commitment

Sérgio Sette Câmara values qualifying on this narrow track: "This circuit is one of my favorites in Formula E and I enjoyed the maiden trip here last season." He believes Pit Boost adds excitement to races by pushing cars to their limits.

Nissan debuted in Formula E during Season 5 (2018/19), becoming Japan's first manufacturer in this series. In Season 7 (2020/21), they committed long-term to Formula E through GEN3 until Season 12 (2025/26). In April 2022, Nissan acquired e.dams race team ownership.

Future Goals

Nissan plans to supply McLaren Racing with EV powertrain technology throughout GEN3. On March 28th, 2024, before Tokyo E-Prix began; they announced their commitment extending into GEN4 until 2030—aligning with Ambition 2030 electrification targets.

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship was certified as net-zero carbon from inception in 2020 by investing globally in climate-protecting projects offsetting emissions each season while promoting sustainable mobility solutions combating air pollution effects worldwide through electric racing technology advancements tested on city streets globally today!
