Nissan Formula E Team Secures Valuable Double Points Finish At Challenging Shanghai Weekend

Nissan Formula E Team had a challenging yet rewarding weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit during the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The team secured crucial points in a double-header event, maintaining their lead in the Drivers' and Manufacturers' standings. Despite adverse weather conditions on Sunday, they remain just one point behind in the Teams' Championship.

On Saturday, Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato achieved a double points finish during Round 10's Pit Boost event. Rowland started strong, advancing to sixth place in qualifying and quickly joining the lead battle. He managed to recover from early contact and narrowly missed a podium finish, ending fifth. Nato also performed well, conserving energy effectively to finish sixth.

Nissan Formula E Team Earns Double Points in Shanghai

The weather took a turn for the worse on Sunday with heavy rain affecting Round 11. Both drivers showed promising pace during Free Practice but struggled in qualifying due to worsening conditions. Rowland qualified 15th while Nato started from 21st position. The race began behind the Safety Car due to wet track conditions, making overtaking difficult.

Despite these challenges, Rowland retains a significant lead in the Drivers' Championship with 171 points. He remains the only driver with multiple wins this season. Nissan Formula E Team is second in the Teams' Standings with 190 points, just one point shy of first place.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, expressed mixed feelings about the weekend's results. "It was a mixed weekend overall for us," he said. "We’re pleased to have achieved a double points finish in the opening race." He acknowledged that extreme conditions made it difficult to advance on Sunday.

Rowland reflected on his performance: "Despite today’s result, the weekend overall has still been a positive one." He noted that Saturday's intense race was challenging but rewarding as he secured fifth place. However, Sunday's limited visibility made it hard to improve positions.

Nissan's Commitment to Formula E

Nissan debuted in Formula E during Season 5 (2018/19) as the first Japanese manufacturer in the series. They announced their long-term involvement through Season 12 (2025/26) and acquired full ownership of their race team in April 2022. Nissan also supplies EV powertrain technology to McLaren Racing for the GEN3 era.

The automaker aims to electrify all new vehicle offerings by early 2030s as part of its carbon neutrality goal by 2050. Nissan races in Formula E to showcase zero-emission electric vehicles globally while transferring knowledge between racetrack and road for better customer vehicles.

Formula E's Sustainability Efforts

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has been certified with a net-zero carbon footprint since its inception in 2020. The series promotes sustainable mobility by racing electric cars on street circuits worldwide, aiming to combat air pollution and climate change effects.

Norman Nato was pleased with his performance on Saturday: "We can be pleased with the strong race pace and points achieved yesterday." Despite struggling on Sunday due to wet conditions, he remains optimistic about regaining their lead heading into Jakarta.

The Nissan Formula E Team is determined to continue fighting for all three titles as they prepare for upcoming races. Their focus remains on maintaining strong performances throughout the remainder of the season.
