Nissan Formula E Team Unveils 'NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo' Retro Arcade Game Designed By Kentaro Yoshida

Nissan Formula E Team has introduced its first video game, 'NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo'. This retro arcade game, created with Japanese Illustrator Kentaro Yoshida, celebrates the FIA Formula E World Championship's arrival in Japan for the team's home race in Tokyo on May 17-18. The game captures Tokyo's electric vibe and honours its gaming culture.

Players can enjoy the game on PC or mobile, navigating a stylized Nissan Formula E car through a Tokyo cityscape at speeds up to 322kph. The game's design features Mount Fuji and cherry blossoms, offering a nostalgic 8-bit visual style reminiscent of classic 90s arcade games. It is available to play at www.NismoElectricRacer.com.

Nissan Launches Retro Arcade Game for Fans

The launch includes a 90s-style video game advert that mixes gameplay with real race footage. Nissan Formula E drivers Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato will attempt to set high scores before the E-Prix, encouraging fans to compete against them and post their scores on the leaderboard. The game blends virtual excitement with real-world racing thrills.

Kentaro Yoshida, known for his pastel tones and bold lines, makes his gaming debut with this project. His unique style will also feature in a special edition livery for the Tokyo E-Prix, reimagining the team's Sakura-themed design. This design will be unveiled on NISMO social channels and at an event on May 14th at Nissan's Global Headquarters in Yokohama.

Nissan entered the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in Season 5 (2018/19), becoming the first Japanese manufacturer in the series. In Season 7 (2020/21), they committed long-term to the GEN3 era from Season 9 (2022/23) to Season 12 (2025/26). In April 2022, Nissan acquired e.dams race team ownership.

In June 2022, Nissan announced it would supply McLaren Racing with its EV powertrain technology throughout the GEN3 era. For Season 10 of the championship, Oliver Rowland and Sacha Fenestraz represent Nissan as drivers. On March 28th, 2024, Nissan confirmed its commitment to Formula E by signing up for the GEN4 era until 2030.

Formula E's Environmental Impact

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship was certified as having a net zero carbon footprint from inception in 2020. It offsets emissions through climate-protecting projects across all race markets. The series promotes sustainable mobility by showcasing electric technology advancements on street circuits worldwide.

All cars in Formula E are powered by electricity, providing a platform for manufacturers to test and develop cutting-edge electric technology. The championship encourages sustainable practices in city centres to combat air pollution and mitigate climate change effects.

Nissan aims to electrify all new vehicle offerings by early 2030s in key markets as part of its goal for carbon neutrality by 2050. They leverage their expertise from racing to enhance electric vehicles for customers globally, aligning with their Ambition 2030 electrification targets.
