Nissan Formula E Team Gears Up For Jakarta Race As Season 11 Approaches Conclusion

The Nissan Formula E Team is gearing up for its final Asian race of the season in Jakarta. This marks the series' return to Indonesia since Season 9. The team aims to maintain its lead in the Manufacturers’ Championship, currently ahead by 26 points with five rounds left. Oliver Rowland leads the Drivers’ Standings, while Norman Nato seeks to build on his recent performance in Shanghai.

The Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit, located near Ancol Beach, spans 2.4 kilometres and features 18 corners. It offers prime overtaking chances at Turns 1 and 16. The circuit's mix of tight corners and high-speed sections challenges both drivers and cars. Weather forecasts predict hot and humid conditions, with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius and possible thunderstorms.

Tommaso Volpe, Nissan Formula E Team's managing director, highlighted the challenges posed by Jakarta's climate. "We’re pleased that the series is returning to Indonesia," he stated. "As per previous races in Jakarta, we know that the heat and humidity will be one of the main challenges throughout the event - not only for the team and the drivers but also for the cars."

Oliver Rowland expressed his enthusiasm for racing in Jakarta despite limited experience there. He noted that a single-header race requires focused preparation on one type of race but increases pressure during qualifying. "Jakarta is a track that I really enjoy," he said, emphasizing how crucial managing car temperature will be due to the heat.

Norman Nato described the circuit as enjoyable due to its combination of slow and fast corners but acknowledged that heat management would be crucial. "The circuit has a nice combination of slow and high-speed corners which makes it enjoyable," he remarked. With only one race scenario to plan for, preparation becomes simpler yet vital for scoring points.

Sérgio Sette Câmara, reserve driver for Nissan Formula E Team, pointed out that Jakarta's street circuit presents unique challenges with tight walls increasing risks at every corner. He mentioned that off-line dust could complicate driving precision, making overtaking opportunities limited mainly to Turn 1 or through the final sector.

Nissan's Commitment to Formula E

Nissan entered Formula E in Season 5 (2018/19), becoming Japan’s first manufacturer in this all-electric series. By Season 7 (2020/21), Nissan committed long-term to Formula E’s GEN3 era from Season 9 (2022/23) until Season 12 (2025/26). In April 2022, Nissan acquired e.dams race team ownership.

In March 2024, before Tokyo’s inaugural E-Prix, Nissan pledged commitment to Formula E’s GEN4 era until 2030. This aligns with their Ambition 2030 electrification goals. Nissan aims for carbon neutrality by 2050 across operations and product life cycles while electrifying new vehicle offerings by early 2030s in key markets.

Formula E's Environmental Impact

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship achieved net zero carbon footprint certification from inception in 2020 by investing in climate-protecting projects globally. All championship cars run on electricity, providing a platform for testing advanced electric technology while promoting sustainable mobility within city centres.

This initiative aims to combat air pollution and mitigate climate change effects by encouraging electric vehicle adoption worldwide through competitive racing among top manufacturers on urban circuits.

Nissan continues racing in Formula E not only to showcase zero-emission vehicles but also transfer knowledge between racetrack innovations and road applications for improved electric vehicles available to consumers globally.
