Nissan Formula E Team Enlists Gabriele Minì For Upcoming Rookie Free Practice In Jeddah

Nissan Formula E Team will feature Gabriele Minì in the Rookie Free Practice session in Saudi Arabia. This event precedes the inaugural Jeddah E-Prix. Minì, a member of the Alpine Academy, has achieved multiple Formula 3 victories and secured second place last season. He also impressed with a podium finish on his F2 debut in Baku and will now compete full-time in the series.

The Rookie Free Practice initiative highlights Formula E and the FIA's commitment to fostering diverse opportunities for emerging racing talent. Scheduled as the first activity during Jeddah's inaugural visit, this 40-minute session will occur on Thursday, 13 February at 16:00 local time (UTC+3). It marks Minì's second collaboration with Nissan after participating in the Berlin Rookie Test in Season 10.

During the Berlin Rookie Test, Minì achieved top ten finishes in both morning and afternoon sessions. "We're delighted to be working with a great talent like Gabriele again after the Berlin Rookie Test in Season 10," said Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team. "He's showed impressive performance with us since the beginning."

Gabriele Minì expressed enthusiasm about returning to work with Nissan. "I'm looking forward to this opportunity after working with the team at the Berlin Rookie Test last year," he stated. He acknowledged that his initial experience with electric race cars was challenging due to their complexity, especially balancing speed and energy efficiency.

Minì has been preparing for Jeddah by working extensively in simulators to tackle unknowns on this new circuit. His goal is to assist Nissan by gathering valuable data throughout the weekend. "My goal is to help the team for the remainder of the weekend by collecting as much data as possible," he added.

Nissan's Long-Term Vision

Nissan entered all-electric racing during Season 5 (2018/19) of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, becoming Japan's first manufacturer in this series. In Season 7 (2020/21), they committed long-term to Formula E and its GEN3 era, which spans from Season 9 (2022/23) through Season 12 (2025/26).

In April 2022, Nissan acquired e.dams race team ownership, solidifying their presence in Formula E. By June 2022, they announced supplying McLaren Racing with their EV powertrain technology for GEN3. For Season 10, Oliver Rowland and Sacha Fenestraz represent Nissan Formula E drivers.

Formula E's Environmental Impact

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship became certified as having a net zero carbon footprint from its inception in 2020. This achievement was made possible by investing in climate-protecting projects across race markets to offset emissions from each season of electric racing.

All championship cars run on electricity, providing a platform for testing cutting-edge electric technology. Competing on street circuits worldwide, Formula E promotes sustainable mobility adoption within city centres to combat air pollution and mitigate climate change effects.

Nissan aims to electrify all new vehicle offerings by early 2030s across key markets as part of its carbon neutrality goal by 2050. The company leverages knowledge transfer between racetrack innovations and road vehicles for improved customer experiences.
