Nissan Formula E Team Heads To Berlin For Crucial Double-Header In Championship Race
Nissan Formula E Team is gearing up for the Berlin E-Prix, marking Rounds 13 and 14 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Oliver Rowland leads the Drivers' Standings by 69 points, having secured three pole positions and seven podiums, including four wins this season. The Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit has been a successful venue for Rowland, where he claimed his first series win in 2020.
Rowland's teammate for the weekend will be Sérgio Sette Câmara, stepping in for Norman Nato due to his World Endurance Championship commitments. Câmara, who has been with the team since Season 11, brings experience from 66 E-Prix races since debuting in Berlin during Season 6. The team aims to maintain its strong performance, having scored points in 10 out of 12 races this season.

The Berlin E-Prix takes place at Tempelhof Airport's apron, a track known for its challenging surface that demands careful tire management. This iconic location has hosted Formula E races since the inaugural season in 2014/15. The weekend kicks off with Free Practice 1 at 16:00 local time (UTC+2), followed by qualifying at 11:20 and races at 16:05 on both Saturday and Sunday.
Following the race weekend, the annual Berlin Rookie Test will occur on Monday. Nissan will field rookie driver Abbi Pulling and Formula 2 racer Gabriele Minì. Both have prior experience with the Nissan e-4ORCE 05 car. They will participate in two three-hour sessions from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00 local time (UTC+2).
Nissan entered Formula E in Season 5 (2018/19) as the first Japanese manufacturer in the series. In April 2022, Nissan took full ownership of its involvement by acquiring the e.dams race team. The company also announced it would supply EV powertrain technology to McLaren Racing throughout the GEN3 era.
In March 2024, Nissan reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Formula E by signing up for the GEN4 era until 2030. This move aligns with their Ambition 2030 electrification goals. Nissan aims to electrify all new vehicle offerings by early 2030s in key markets as part of its carbon neutrality target by 2050.
Team Insights and Strategy
Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, expressed confidence ahead of Berlin's event. "Berlin is a track we are familiar with and where we've been successful in the past," he stated. Volpe emphasized that despite layout changes this year, they have ample data from previous seasons to guide them.
Oliver Rowland shared his excitement about returning to Berlin, recalling his first win there as a special memory. He anticipates an interesting strategic weekend with different race dynamics on Saturday and Sunday due to Pit Boost and energy-saving tactics.
Sérgio Sette Câmara's Perspective
Sérgio Sette Câmara is eager to compete this weekend in Berlin after being part of many races as a reserve driver. "I've been working hard at the factory with Oli and engineers," he said about preparing for his first race with Pit Boost technology.
Câmara acknowledged challenges like adapting mid-season but remains optimistic about contributing positively to all three championships Nissan is involved in this season.
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship stands out as a platform promoting sustainable mobility through electric racing technology development while combating air pollution globally.
