Nissan Formula E Team Aims For Strong Performance At Mexico City E-Prix This Weekend
Nissan Formula E Team is gearing up for the Mexico City E-Prix, the second round of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. After a strong showing in São Paulo, drivers Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato are eager to continue their momentum in Mexico. This event, held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez, is a staple in the Formula E calendar, except for 2021.
The Mexico City circuit presents unique challenges due to its high altitude of 2,250 meters above sea level. This makes it the highest track on the 2024/25 calendar. The venue is renowned for its stadium section where cars navigate through Turns 13-18 amidst cheering crowds before hitting the long start/finish straight.
Nissan has a significant presence in Mexico, having operated there for over six decades. The company established its first manufacturing plant outside Japan in Mexico in 1966. Since then, more than 14 million vehicles and over 15 million engines have been produced locally for both domestic and international markets.
Track activities commence on Friday at 17:00 (UTC-6), with qualifying scheduled for Saturday at 09:40 and the race at 14:00. Tommaso Volpe, Nissan Formula E Team's managing director and team principal, expressed excitement about racing in Mexico. He highlighted Nissan's dominance in the local market with four of the top-10 best-selling cars being Nissan models.
Oliver Rowland is enthusiastic about returning to Mexico City after a break. He aims to capitalise on their promising performance in São Paulo by avoiding mistakes and securing strong points. Rowland emphasised the importance of finding an optimal setup during practice to qualify well and start from the front.
